Sorry guys, but the key is not stuck in the ignition. Ignition is in off position yet the power to the vehicle is still on. I have since pulled the ignition completely off I can now turn the ignition over but will not start. Communication between my key fob and vehicle seems non-existent. Locksmith just left and said unable to help that it is a mechanics issue.

Usually a stuck key in a steering column involves the steering lock. Try turning the key while turning the steering wheel back and forth.

SOURCE: ignition switch on a 2002 chevy trailblazer

under the steering column, there are three or four little holes in the plastic covering. If you look inside, one of them (the one on the right side toward the dash) there is a brass pin inside. This is the pin to release the key. As far as the key not turning, I have had the same problem. The first time I replaced the ignition switch and that solved the problem. However, this makes no sense because the ignition switch has nothing to do with the tumbler being locked. GMC thinks that my anti theft system, which is inside the ignition cylinder is the problem. By removing the ignition switch, it reset the pass lock anti-theft system and temporarily fixed the problem. So, try removing the ignition switch and then plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, your in the same boat as I am, and we may both need new ignition cylinders.

SOURCE: Key won't turn in ignition, 2001 Toyota 4Runner

I have the same problem. I put some graphite down the key hole and pushed it around in there and it loosened it up a bit to the point I could turn the ignition. If you have a replacement key, start using that. It should help as well.Teeth on old key may be wearing down. Lastly, I keep a screwdriver in the car to whack against key when it's in the ignition if it's stuck. A few taps on the key will always unlock the ignition.

Or, go but a new ignition and key set....

SOURCE: the key is stuck in the ignition of my gm equinox.

It's part of the steering lock mechanism causing the issue. You probably turned everything off while the wheels were off center. Grab your steering wheel and pull it counter-clockwise with some strength and at the same time, try turning your ignition key. It should release.

How to open range rover 2003 with died battery

Some models of Range Rover have a hidden key slot to manually open the drivers side door. Try this. Take a close look at the door handle at the section that does not move. On some models this is a small cover that is held in place with adhesive tape. GENTLY lever the cover off but DO NOT force it off as this could damage the handle cover. I would suggest use a piece of rag over the grip section of handle and lever at the joint position to avoid scratching any paintwork. Once the cover is off turn your ignition key in the slot to unlock the door.

How do you enable a range rover engine when key battery is flat

There is a sequence of left and right turns of the key in the driver's door that will reset your bECM (Rovers brain) if the following have been tried.
1. Replace batteries in remote and 're-sync by depressing lock button on remote while physically turning and locking the door. Don't release button until locked and key removed. Repeat for unlock button.
2. Disconnect negative/earth cable from battery. While disconnected open driver's door, turn ignition to position 2, return to battery leaving driver's door open and reconnect the negative cable. Proceed to ignition. Turn off completely. Close all doors and hood and attempt starting.
Should both of these methods fail, run a search here on fixya for "engine disabled Range Rover P38" This will take you to step by step instructions on resetting the bECM which I opened this post with. It has been covered many times here, including by myself, no reason to post it again.
Good Luck!

Key locks in the ignition in the ACC position. can't take key out

when you turn key to acc pos that is telling the ignition to go into a accessory mode which runs the radio, wipers etc... but it doesnt allow the ignition circuit to run, and the key in most vehicles will not be able to come out, this is a security protection so that you do not leave accessories on that will drain the battery. The ignition key should only be able to be removed in the OFF position.

2006 honda accord: key stuck in ACC position. won't turn to O position to remove from ignition. car starts fine and is in park.

The same thing happened to my 2003 Honda Accord...took it to the dealership, and they had to replace my shift lever entirely. Something about the cable between the ignition and shift lever not being read correctly...(basically, my car is not reading that it's actually in park and therefore won't release the key)....
