ABS light is on in my 97 chevy cavalier

My ABS light keeps coming on, it will randomly stay off when i start my car, i have brakes, but the light is annoying me, i think it's just a traction issue due to the fact that i constantly have to park in spots covered in ice to avoid getting a ticket, any other suggestions to check?

Have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . The lights on codes are stored in the anti-lock brake control module .

SOURCE: Traction Active light comes on

1prettysmile,
The "traction active" light is a light that lets you know when a certain part of your Anti lock break system engages. Each tire has a sensor that detects a couple different things in the wheels. One of the sensors may be going bad and needs replaced. Any of these sensors going bad can cause those symptoms.

There is probably a problem with you anti lock brake system. Have it checked at your local dealership. Brakes are a problem that should never be let go.

SOURCE: Impala - trac off and ABS light along with service traction syst

THE PROBLEM IS WITH A HUB WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OR MORE LIKELY THE HARNESS LEADING TO THE HUB.

CHECK THE RESISTANCE AT THE HUB CONNECTION, IT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 900OHMS AND 1300OHMS. THEN SWITCH TO A-C VOLTAGE, IT SHOULD BE 100MV WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL BY HAND. IF BOTH CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE WIRING TO THE HUB.

THE RIGHT FRONT HUB USUALLY HAS A BEND, DOWNWARD THEN UPWARD NEAR THE CONNECTOR TO THE HUB. THAT IS WHERE THE PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURS.

NEW HARNESS WIRES CAN BE BOUGHT AT THE DEALER.

SOURCE: abs codes co281 & co265

the first of the two codes is for the brake light switch, the one that is under the dash attached to the brake rod and brake peddle. Not much to diag on that one, if its bad it's bad, and when it sets the code that means it's bad.
The second one is for the abs modual, it's under the truck on the drivers side. It is bolted to the top of the thing that has all of the brake lines going to it. MOST all of the time that code is set the modual is bad. It can be a little hard to get the bolts out they are torqs 20 or 25(i'm getting old). There are four of them holding down the modual. There are also a couple of connectors going to it. And some of the time it will blow the fuse for the abs under the hood(its in the underhood fues block). Make sure to clean off the modual before you pull it out. You don't want dirt getting in the solinoids for the BPMV(that's the thing it's bolted to).

Abslight stays on. How to fix? This is a2007trailblazer?

First you need to have EBCM - electronic brake control module check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . If the light is on there is a code stored . I think most part stores can do this and for free . After you find out what code is stored , looking up that code in service repair information for diagnostic trouble shooting chart would be next step . There are a few codes too.
DTC C0035 or C0040
DTC C0045 or C0050
DTC C0110
DTC C0131
DTC C0161
DTC C0186
DTC C0196
DTC C0201
DTC C0240
DTC C0241 or P0856
DTC C0244 or P1689
DTC C0245
DTC C0283
DTC C0287
DTC C0290 or C0292
DTC C0455
DTC C0550
DTC C0558

Find the code do the diagnostic's , fix the problem , wiring issue's , a sensor , bad module ,what ever it is . The light will go out then . Here is a sample of code discription .
• DTC C0035 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
• DTC C0040 Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

I want to disable abs and trac control for a chevy 2002 cavalier, keeps having problems went throught it with a awsome mechanic and found no issues at all im sick of this **** every winter. I want answers...

one way to disable the abs brakes is to go under the hood and remove the abs relay, the box is located under the hood on the drivers side next to the battery just pull it out and your brakes will be like regular brakes the only problem is that your brake light and traction light will stay on but if you can put up with them then that will fix your problem. hope this helps.

Probably just a dirty sensor or broken wire, but you should proably have your brakes checked to be safe.

2000 chevy cavalier ABS and Brake lights staying on

You had it scanned? They didn't find any codes? If there were no codes, did the ABS computer even communicate? Also did you check the brake fluid, most newer cars have a float switch in the master. If the fluid is low that will set off the lights.

My abs and parking brake indicator is on the dash.i want to know how i can get rid of those lights 97 chevy cavalier

It sound like ABS break sensor is out. most likely would be in the rear sensors or simply you need break pads.

Abs & Brake light on.

I have found that the wheel sensors for the abs system get very dirty and cause the abs warning light to come on. You can try to clean them if you have the tools to take them off but usually you just want to replace them.

Your brake warning light and your rear braking problem may be caused by the same problem,
the cable sticking. Good luck!

Take your vehicle in immediately. If this many lights are coming on, it could be a problem with the computer. Worse yet, it could mean:
1) your ABS isn't working
2) you could have serious engine problems
3) You could loose your braking

The brake light comes on for two reasons - the e-brake is on, or there is a problem with the braking system. If your e-brake is off, worry.

Drive slowly to a repair shop you trust and get diagnostics run on it. Go from there.

I hope for your sake it's just a small problem.

Good Luck,
Hope this helps 2 Pts Rate Answer
