I have a 1989 bmw 535i and when i try to start the car it wont start, it cranks and all but does not start i also try presing the gas but that does not help and some times after it starts it sounds like the car has too much gas and it chokes.
Pumping the gas pedal will flood the engine and it will sputter and choke and stink. Next time put the pedal all the way to the floor ONCE - then try starting it. When was your last tune-up? Sounds like you're past due. You've got a combination of things going on - dirty carburetor / air cleaner, fouled spark plugs, etc.Pumping the gas pedal will flood the engine and it will sputter and choke and stink. The original equipment battery on this car is weak. I had to put a trickle charger on the battery for my 2008 BMW 535i to keep it charged. Your other option is to buy an aftermarket battery that is tougher than the original and costs less (about $110 versus $435).
That's it...that's all it took to knock out the electronics?
Not enough info....whaddya mean won't start? wont crank to start, cranks but doesn't start? Where can we start if we don't have enough info. You know exactly what you mean......no one else does.
Assuming your battery is good (go to Walmart and have them check it for you; they do this for free) the most likely cause is a light bulb in the glove box, interior light, under the hood, door ajar indicator or trunk that does not turn off when it is not needed. Try pulling various fuses each night when you park the car. The night the battery does not die you will want to focus on the system those fuses control as that is where your problem is.
if this is a 1985 model car, then its pretty old...
i think you are saying that you crank it,it starts, then it goes dead over and over again?
or are you saying that you think the security system has disabled your engine?i have a '85 535i and a '84 528e i've had a different problem with the 535i and have just been driving the 528e.my point being that i cant remember everything about the 535i but i can look and tell you where everything is if you dont know or cant find out.
have you tried holding your foot down on the accelerator while you were trying to crank it?this shouldnt have to be done if your engine is repaired and adjusted properly, but you are just trying to see if it will run.
i dont think the security system would disable the engine like that as you say "locked" which could either mean the security system locked out the engine or that someone told you your motor is "locked up" and that cant be if it runs at all...
if it stays running with your foot on the gas a little then you will need some adjustment or some parts.probably a visit to a bmw shop.i was able to get both the 528 and 535 engine running smoothly with a flat head screwdriver and an allen wrench as well as doing some basic maintenence like changing the plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and oil,air and fuel filters(there are two filters on the 5 series bmw)without taking an 85 model car to the shop and paying a bunch of money to get it fixed, but thats not for everyone.good luck.
I changed it all ,last week ,& is fuel injection not carb , thanks anyway
