Brake Lights don't work

I have a 78 Cutlass supreme and my brake lights quit working. They work when I turn the hazards on so it isn't the bulb, the fuses are fine and I just put a new stop light switch on and they still don't work. Help Me!!

I have a 1987 Cutlass Supreme and the brake lights wouldn't work. When I moved the tilt steering to a certain position they worked.

Did you actually check the bulbs. They can both burn out at the same time. You think the lights are ok because it lights up when the hazards are on,but the brake light switch stops the hazards from flashing when brake pedal is applied

Check fuse for brakes under dash. I believe the brake lights and dash lights were on the same circuit in that model. Hope this helps and have a good day.

1997 olds cutless brake lights will not work. bulbs, fuse and switch are good

Its a faulty turn signal switch.Try this, push down and hold brake pedal while pushing on the hazard switch and if the brake lights come on then replace the signal switch.

1989 olds cutlass supreme. None of the brake lights work. All other lights work. Fuses are good.

You probably have a bad brake light switch. This switch is located on the brake pedal arm or a bracket next to the arm. This switch activates the brake lights when the pedal is pushed. You can check this by turning on your turn signals or warning flasher if your light flash in the rear. Your bulbs are good so this will bring you back to the brake light switch.

Hi there, my 1999 oldsmile cutlass supreme seems to be having difficulties w both brake lights. i replaced bulbs, no luck. cyclops light still works, suggestions? fuse? where would it be located, thanks...

try to toggle the hazard (emergency lamp switch on top of the steering collumn) on and off rapidly several times.the switch cuts the brake lights out for the 4ways to flash. if the 3rd brake-light still works the fuse is good.if the 4ways work and you cant get the brake lights to work then the multifunction lever has to be replaced which has the hazard switch on it. this is a vary common problem but the steering wheel has to be removed along with some other components behind the wheel which require special tools and knowledge. usually you can get the brake-lights working again by working the button for the 4ways rapidly until the brake lights start working again. good luck.

Have a 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme, brake lights will not work. We've replaced bulbs, fuses and brake light switch and still nothing. Help!

Try having someone push on brake pedal at the same time thay move the turn signal lever up and down slightly to see if your brake lights work this would tell me that you have a faulty turn signal switch because GM runs the brake lights thru the turn signal switch so they work if you are driving with your 4way flashers on.

One of 2 things to have checked, if all your bulbs and connections are correct. 1-stop lamp switch module.
2-multifunction/combination switch (blinker arm/components that are in the steering column). For about a 1/2 hrs. labor cost, a mechanic should be able to test the circuits.

No brake lights and abs light is on in the dash lights on a 1994 olds cutlass supreme...checked bulbs, fuses and changed the brake switch...none of that worked...all the other lights work fine...can not...

Change your turn signal switch in the steering column 99% sure that is your problem you can some times check by holding the brake pedal down and wiggling the the switch around and have someone watch to see if the come on

Hazard flashers do not work. Turn signals do. Changed relay. Nothing. Ugh. 1992 oldsmobile cutlass supreme

You changed the hazard flasher or the turn signal flasher? It has two, one for the hazard and one for the turn signals

88 olds cutlass, no brake lights

Your brake light circuit runs thru your turnsignal switch if your hazard switch is on your column I have seen numerous inop brake lights caused by faulty turn signal switches.

Rear brake lights not working, but bulbs are fine

Hi! Have you checked the brake light switch? usually located at the top of the footbrake pedal, it is a plunger type and should have two wires going to it? if faulty try bridging the connection/wires for a test! have someone watching your lights to save jumping in and out of vehicle.
Merry Christmas!
