Fog lights stay on - 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

If fog lights are controlled through the same switch as the wipers it is most likely the switch assembly shorting out

If the wiring and fog lights are all factory, you probably have a bad light switch. The fog lights should go off if the bright lights are turned on.

You likely have a pinched wire in your harness somewhere.
Those cars are prewired for Fogs whether you have them or not. If the wiring is pinched with another wire that carries current, it will backfeed through the system illuminating the fog indicator light.
That light does not normally have power with the key off, so knowing that it stays on with the key off, there is little other possibility other than a damaged section of wiring.
Take it back to the repair shop quickly so you can have a insurance supplement claimed.

The fuse is No.3 "DR locks" (near steering wheel)
If you take the fuse out the doors will not open itselves.

The root cause of the problem will be a microswitch inside the drivers door?

1.At first take out the foglight's fuse before you battery is dead. (Fog lights stays "ON" even you leave the car).

2.You must replace the Multifunction control switch =(

Fog lights are connected to pin 13,14.
Fog light switch is "B". Because the current is many Amps, contact surfaces are heating up.
After that the contact opening "C" is melting (made of plastic) so the fog light stays "ON".

i have had this problem with my pt. the turn signal multifunction switch must be replaced.this will fix it.for know try unplugging the lights.

1st most newer car cars have a timer delay that helps light the area you are in for a couple of seconds. You may have had the knob turned all the way up on the turn signal switch. The same thing will happened if this switch is turned all the way up, the interrior light will stay on. Turn the lights on with the switch and see if the fog lights come on, do this without the car running.Trun the lights off,see if the fog lights stay on then go out after a while.if so you have a delay on the fog lights or relay. Your car has rear fog lights. The rear light that you see come on with your headlights is your rear fog light. The light in your dash is the rear fog light indicator. To turn off your rear fog lghts push your headlight switch in half way. To turn off your front fog lights push in all of the way.

hi disconnect your fog light switch if this doesn,t knock them off you need to find the fog lights relay and replace it as the fog light circuit is shorted best of luck yates210456
