P0685 refers to ECM power relay control---circuit open===causes--wiring--ECM relay
Replace this relay. Check the wiring from the coil to the distributor as there is a dead short after the coil somewhere for the fuse to blow and the coil to overheat.. You may have a electronic module failure either in the distributor or the ECM

SOURCE: what causes to burn out one of the ignition coil of 03 bmw 325i

replace the busted transistor in your ECU. For Bosch 30011 or 30014 you can use BU323Z transistor for replacement. it´s 100% pin-compatible and released for transistor ignition systems.

My 2009 Ford Focus ignition fuse 29 keeps blowing and now car won't start we changed ignition switch and it still won't start please help me?

This fuse powers the coils but also goes to the transformer capacitor. Trace the purple wire from the coils to find the capacitor. Disconnect the capacitor and test with an ohmmeter. The resistance should start at zero and climb to infinity. If not, replace the capacitor. If the capacitor is good, unplug all coils, put in a fresh fuse, and turn on the key. Check the fuse. If it burned, you have a short on the wire. If not, plug the coils back in one at a time, and check the fuse each time. If the fuse burns after plugging in a coil, replace that coil. Does this make sense?

Cylinder # 3 has a misfire...#1) Defective coil on plug or the spark plug itself...#2) Contaminated fuel injector...See drawings below...The coil pack is the smaller of the two and sits to the rear of engine it is the most probable cause...Although the spark plug or the ignition wire (connection between plug and coil pack) could be at fault...so, before you invest in a new coil pack...Remove from both ends the wire from #3 and switch it with #2...if the fault code changes to p0302 that wire is bad...next Install a new set of plugs....Fault still present? replace the coil pack.....Unless recently changed new plugs and wires are a plus even if fault remains...saailer

Still having problems will not run good. 1997 ford 2.0 escort;new plugs&wires coil;fuel pump still codes 0351;

From a reputable repair website:

P0351 - OBD-II Trouble Code

Auto Systems and Repair

Ignition Coil "A" Circuit Primary/Secondary Malfunction Our emissions expert has put together the following information about the P0351 fault code. We have also included diagnostic procedures you can take to your repair shop if the mechanic is having difficulty analyzing the code.
OBD II Fault Code
  • OBD II P0351 Ignition Coil "A" Circuit Primary/Secondary Malfunction
What does this mean? The ignition coil or coils are responsible for igniting the air/fuel mixture inside the combustion chambers. Without reliable performance from the ignition coil(s) the vehicle will stumble and misfire.
Code P0351 indicates there's an electrical problem in either the primary ( the computer side ) or the secondary ( the spark plug side ) of the Ignition Coil "A" Circuit.
Symptoms
  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • Engine idles rough
  • Engine misfires on acceleration
  • In rare cases, the engine may not exhibit noticeable symptoms
Common Problems That Trigger the P0351 Code
  • Defective Ignition Coil(s)
  • Defective Spark Plug(s)
  • Intake Manifold Vacuum leaks
  • Carbon buildup in the Throttle Body air passages
  • Defective Idle Air Control Valve or Electronic Body
Common Misdiagnosis
  • Ignition coil(s) replaced when cause of the malfunction was a vacuum leak
  • Spark Plugs replaced when cause of the malfunction was a vacuum leak

Misfiring. Error codes p0306, p0351, p0352

p0306 refers to cylinder 6 misfire detected===causes engine mechanical fault--wiring---ignition/fuel system--injector ---ECT/MAF sensor---ECM
IF there was a mechanical fault (hydraulic follower ) or valve it would be there most of the time and not just on start up. Possible injector fault but I would be inclined to check out the MAF sensor codes p0351 &2 refer to ignition coil A and ignition coil B primary /secondary--circuit malfunction === causes --wiring--ignition coil--ECM ( all causes for the both)
going on this check out the coils and check that the wiring and connections are clean and tight. basically I would be inclined to change out the coils and check /replace the MAF sensor.
change the engine --sounds like advice to get some extra money out of you.

Daihatsu Mira 3 cyl 660cc No spark .I have checked plug and lead and fuses Any help appreciated. thanks rob.

Hi,

In my past dealings with these 3 cylinder engines, common faults (depending on the engine) are:
  • contact point pitting/burns (clean, scrape/replace);
  • rotor;
  • distributor cap;
  • ignition coil;
  • ignition coil ignition B+12 connector;
  • ignition coil loose ground.
Please check above mentioned components.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
