1998 F150 Reg Cab 4x4 won't shift to 3rd.

Hi, i have a 1998 F150 Regular Cab 4x4 that will not shift out of second. All started last night...Coming out of the driveway and started to pickup speed, 1-2 gears shiftd just fine untill i got to third, then it revved up to 3000rpm w/o shifting. it down shifts just fine when i slow down and shift like it supposed to untill 3rd gear. im thinking it might be a 3-4 shift solenoid, but if not, what else could it be? Any answers would be well appreciated.

If there is a problem with the 3-4 solenoid then a check engine light would be on or the OD light would be flashing. Read the faultcodes and see what is there.

SOURCE: ford focus 2000 1:8cc

I have a 2000 ford focus. It was stalling when Idling, So we replaced the fuel filter that didn't fix the problem. Scanned and found that it was idling at 18%, upped the idle and it quite stalling but it ate gas like a pig. Replaced the TPS, Reset idle down to normal. Now it guts out at 20KM/hr still idles. The RPM are off the roof in Park and Neutral. THe TB was cleaned, I am at a loss.

What is wrong with it, What more can I do?

SOURCE: ball joints

first of all you will need a balljoint press and a hub nut socket then you just have to remove the lockout and hub to pull out the axle to get to the ball joint and you alway replace upper and lower at the same time.

1998 f150 4x4 not working

Check BJB ( aka Battery Junction Box, Engine Compartment fuse panel ) Fuse #17. This is the power to the Transfer Case shift relay, which powers the Shift motor in the Transfer case and power to the magnetic clutch coil ( via the transfer case relay ).

The other fuse to check is the CJB ( aka Central Junction Box, cab fuse panel ) Fuse #23.

If both fuses check good, time to check for power on the connector for the shift relay and the shift motor. The power from BJB Fuse # 17 is the Dark Green w/ Light Green stripe ( this is hot at all times ).
The old school test is to lightly hit the back of the transfer case, to see if the shift motor is hung up.
Here are the diagrams, so you can see what I am talking about.

I have not used my 4x4 shifter in a long time 1998 f150.It seems to stiff to move any ideas

Crawl underneath with a lubricant like WD-40 and spray the heck out of the shifter rod where it attaches to transfer case, and work it back and forth, spray again. This worked on my last 2 Fords, made a big difference.

My 1998 ford f150 4x4 has electrial problems. The dome light, power windows, wipers, electric door locks are not working. Any ideas

Hi, this might be caused by a blown fuse. Check all fuses as there are some systems integrated with others running from the same fuse. If all the fuses are fine you will need to look at the earth connections and power supplies to the systems.

1996 F150 V8 4X4 Auto Transmission Problem

Is it starting out in 2nd. too? If so you may have a blown fuse or you tore some wires off. If the trany loses it's electrics it will go into the limp home mode. It will only have 2nd. and reverse. GM vehicles do the same thing.

Hi, I can't get my transfer case shifter lever into 4 wheel low. It works easily to high. I've got a 1991 F150 4x4 XLT with auto trans and the 5.4 V8. Thanks Tom

make sure you're doing it correctly. floor shift 4wd's usually need to shove the lever to the right or left to scoot into 4LO. if you have manual hubs, make sure they're in. double check the fluid levels and mechanicals to the front Pumpkin to make sure nothings binding up, too.
