94 4.3 vortec intake egr port clogged

Recently changed intake gaskets on my 94 jimmy 4.3 vortec. When I opened it up the ports on both upper and lower intake for egr were completely clogged. Had to use a chisel to open em up. since back together Have had to pull egr 4 times from getting chunks of carbon in it holding it open. Put a screened gasket on the last time, but truck is gradually getting worse again. Rough idle and rough cruising speed as well as losing power and now starting to tick alittle when you try to force it to move faster than it wants to. How can I stop the egr from getting carboned up or can the truck be ran without a egr?

You must have an egr valve for this engine to work.Sounds like you are getting oil blow-by combustion causing carbon in the exhaust which may do due to a faulty crankcase ventilation valve, bad piston rings, etc. Whatever the cause, oil combustion produces the carbon, and you will need to fix that.

Like to other guy said, give it a tuneup. Also try SEAFOAM to clean carb up of slug. Also check to make sure the butter fly for the choke has not come loose, causing it the choke it down. Failed choke pull-off.

i think if you checked the sparking plugs and map sensors then check your distributer its maybe not delivering the current nedded to perform the spark to some of the cylinders

Code p0401

on a mazda protege. 1.8L. You have a clogged vacuum port. On that intake back by the EGR valve there should be a port with a vacuum hose that goes over to the Right side strut tower. That line should have vacuum. That controls your EGR boost solenoid. If that line does not have vacuum it will be clogged at the nipple where it comes out of the intake. Step two. Take off throttle body. Behind the throttle body, looking inside the intake, there should be a big vacuum port. It will be clogged. You will see a big black ring most likely around the hole where the port should be. I usually pull the EGR valve off the intake so it doesn't get carboned up. Blow through that vacuum port with shop air and use a pick and some carb cleaner on it. This should solve your issues with the egr flow issue on this vehicle. 9/10 the ports will be clogged. Good luck.

How to fix trouble code P1509 on a 2000 Ford F150

On the 5.4 aand 4.6 trucks the egr port on the upper intake manifold clogs up with carbon. The other issue is the EGR DPFE ( delta pressure feedback egr sensor) will get condensation inside and through a code. The cheapest thing would be to pull the upper intake elbow and clean it. DO NOT CHANGE THE EGR SENSOR, try cleaning the upper intake first.

I have a misfire on cylinder #5 on my 1997 Ford F150 with a 4.2 . I have changed the coil, plugs, wires and injector. I have 180 lbs of compresson on cylider 5 and 150 in all others. Can anyone help me?...

The lower intake have ported egr ..the ports will get clogged and the one thats open will get all the flow and cause it to misfire..Remove the upper intake and take a small drill bit and clean out the ports..Seen this a million times..Take and warm the engine up,hold the engine about 2000 rpms and see if the engine has a slight shake..Then disconnect the vacuum line to the egr ,,and bring it up to about 2000 rpm and see if it dont go away..We have a whole fleet of them..And all of them get clogged up..Make sure the engine is hot before you do it..

How to replace an intake manifold gasket on a 1996 gmc jimmy

Hello,

Here is a detailed summary on the procedure of how to replace the intake manifold gasket on a 1996 gmc jimmy;
REMOVING THE UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD(PLENUM)
STEP 1 Disconnect Battery (may not be absolutely necessary, but a good practice to avoid shorting a positive wire to ground).

STEP 2 Remove serpentine belt.

STEP 3 Drain the coolant.

STEP 4 Remove air cleaner ducting and disconnect wires.

STEP 5 Disconnect throttle linkage and bracket.

STEP 6 Disconnect cruise control cable.

STEP 7 Remove brake booster vacuum hose at manifold.

STEP 8 Remove PCV hose.

STEP 9 Remove ignition coil and bracket.

STEP 1O Remove purge solenoid and bracket.

STEP 11 Relieve fuel pressure at test port.

STEP 12 Remove fuel lines and bracket.

STEP 13 Remove upper intake manifold.

REMOVING THE LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD
STEP 1 Remove the distributor and label the spark plug wires.

STEP 2 Remove heater hoses and bypass hose.

STEP 3 Remove upper radiator hose.

STEP 4 Remove EGR valve?

STEP 5 Remove sensors and bracket on right side.

STEP 6 Remove EGR tube, clamp and bolt.

STEP 7 Remove PCV valve (and replace).

STEP 8 Unbolt A/C compressor and move it aside.

STEP 9 Loosen compressor bracket and slide forward, but do not remove it.

STEP 10 Remove alternator bracket bolt (or remove alternator and set aside)

STEP 11 Unplug all vacuum lines from intake manifold.

STEP 12 Unplug all electrical connectors from manifold.

STEP 13 Take note of the intake manifold bolts and mark the location of the bolts.

STEP 14 Remove intake manifold bolts, and manifold.

STEP 15 Clean mating surfaces

THE MAIN INSTALLATION
STEP1 Set the new gaskets in place and apply silicone to flat areas on front and rear of engine block.

STEP2 Apply thread locking compound to manifold bolts.

STEP 3 Install the manifold and tighten bolts to 35 ft-lbs, in proper sequence.

STEP4 Install the distributor.

STEP5 Install the upper intake manifold.

The remaining installation procedures are basically the reverse of removal.

Have a nice day.

Code 0401 egr, also engine seems to missfire or

Ok this is a pretty inexpensive problem if you have some basic mechanical skills, and tools. The 0401 code is usually triggered by the egr valve sticking open, or carbon deposits clogging the port into the intake. This acts like a vacuum leak and causes a random misfire situation. Go to your autoparts store and buy an egr valve gasket and a throttle body gasket. Remove the egr vlave and inspect the pintle (the plunger dealie inside there) push it in several times with a small screwdriver and check for sticking. If it appears to be sticking, scrape out what carbon you can and if it has a torx indention in the pintle insert a torx driver of appropriate sixe and turn back and forth while pushing in and out on the pintle to clean. use some carb cleaner to finish cleaning and reinstall egr with new gasket. IF it's NOT stuck, all is not lost but it gets a little harder. If the valve shows no signs of sticking, you will then need to remove the throttle body from the intake, try to do this without unplugging any wires if possible. You can then use a piece of wire (coathanger works well) to clear the port between the egr valve port and intake, remember to stuff some shop rags into the intake before cleaning so carbon bits don't get in there. after clearing the port, reassemble with new gaskets and you're good.

Where is the EGR valve located on a 1985 corvette

Located on intanke manifold. What are you doing?

Typically. there is a build up in the exhaust cross over port that is centered front to back and passes directly under the choke and carb. Be sure the valve at the end of the right (usually) exhaust manifold, is free and working.

The EGR valve is subject to problems from exhaust particles, that sometimes jamb it open.
