SOURCE: the fuel pump pumps but on start up it dies

REPLACE FUEL FILTER IF IT HAS BEEN A WHILE.ALSO THE FUEL PUMP RELAY.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE.IT SHOULD BE 35 - 45 PSI. THE 4.9 ENGINE FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 50 -60 PSI.IF FUEL PRESSURE IS GOOD.SCAN IT CHECK THE EGR VALVE / THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR / THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL / ALSO A FAULTY FUEL INJECTOR OR INJECTORS WILL CAUSE PROBLEM.CHECK ALL ELECTRICAL WIRE CONNECTIONS TO THE IGNITION COIL AND DISTRIBUTOR.

SOURCE: truck won't start, can't hear either fuel pump 1992 Ford F 150 5.

If you can't hear the fuel pump when you turn the key to the on position trying to build up fuel pressure, it is most likely either a voltage issue at the fuel pump or you need to replace the fuel pump. Have you checked your fuel filter? Try turning on the key without engaging the starter and see if you hear the whine of the fuel pump.

Good Luck

SOURCE: i am not getting power to my fuel pump

on a lot of ford products there is a switch that goes from the fuel pump to the inside of one of the bedsides.
what this is, is a shock switch that turns the fuel pump off if it absorbs a hit.
its a really dumb safety feature but its effective.
there is a red button on it that u have to press to make it active again.
sometimes they just trip for no reason.

P'up means pickup and is it USA spec car.
what engine is there
we had 4 engines then,. sold new. 2 gas, 2 diesel.
Gas.
the return line on all old loop fuel systems have and FPR in the line or just filter.
the check ball is inside the pump .
1: is turbo diesel too. see it here/ all 4.? we can;t guess engines
ever, be silly to try.
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/isuzu,1986,pickup

must be 1.9L or 2.3L gas. not diesel right>?
yes both are still carb fuel then,.
some have 2 pumps, one in tank and 1 on side of engine off cam.
mechanical it. or 1 or the other.
some show and inline metal filter there.
my guess you have the mech pump off cam.
so that sure does have built end regulator.

2.5 to 4.5 pounds of pressure

3 pipes are IN, out to carb and return to tank
In to carb is the reg side.
the excess fuel via regulator goes to the fuel tank ruturn line
just like EFI injected engines do for decades.
modern cars the reg is in the tank at pump end. no return line.

Yes, but check on how to hook it up. Messing with fuel lines is not for the inexperienced.

Car sits for two-days or more have to pump peddle and crank for long time before starts. Sometimes it will sart faster if I crank and pump then turn off egnition then rtedo , it will start faster.....

If you car is a mid-1980's or newer it's fuel injected and pumping the pedal has no affect on it starting. A few causes are = clogged fuel filter, intermitent fuel pump activity [ pump, or relay ], faulty fuel pressure regulator, leak in system, etc. If you can hear the fuel pump run when you first turn on the igntion, then look for the filter or regulator problem. If there's a leak in the system then it may get air bound.

could be your fuel pump is failing. the best beginning will be to place a pressure gauge inline and monitor the fuel pressure when you race the engine. If the pressure drops off then it might be the pump. By the way, is your air filter clean?

A 460 engine that acts like its not getting enough fuel. Will start but runs as if only on half the cylinders missing badly or such.

Check your running fuel pump pressure. If (as I suspect) it's too low, first try changing your fuel filter. After changing the filter, recheck the running fuel pump pressure. If still low, check you fuel pump pressure regulator. If OK, you may need a new fuel pump.

Also probably would be a good idea to replace you air filter.

Good luck!
