Only leaks when the car is runing
Check to see if there are two gaskets. if the rubber gasket from the old filter is stuck on from the change then you have 2 gaskets on top of each other. being rubber when oil starts flowing they won't maintain rigidity because the one stuck on from before won't have the metal lip of the filter holding it

i had the same issue. turned out to just be a plasic o ring cracked. theres a metal line that runs out from the mounting area of the oil filter next to the oil pressure sending unit that is for cooling oil (youll have to get the air box out of the way to access it). disconnet that line and there it is. i looked all over to try and find a plastic o ring and no one had it. i slapped a plain ole rubber o ring on there and WA LA! no more oil stains on my drive way.

well, oil seals get old and an engine is still considered to be good, according to what I have read on the Internet, if it consumes less than 1 quart per 1000 miles.And, one should change the oil every 3,000 mi. according to most reputable oil change garages.
Granted if it's leaking any oil, that is not ideal.
Rubber seals and gaskets can get oil soaked and spongy or tightness of bolts that hold gaskets on can be too loose (but I wouldn't overtighten bolts as they only go in so far)..
