Cruise control doesn't work

Simply the cruise control on my GTO (1991) automatic doesn't work. It wasn't working when I bought it 7 months ago. This is my first attempt to resolve the problem. It may well be something so simple.

CHECK YOUR VACUUM LINES, THERE SHOULD BE ONE ALMOST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIRE WALL THAT JUNCTIONS TO 2 OTHERS WITH A LITTLE CANISTER ABOUT AS BIG AROUND AS YOUR THUMB, FREQUENTLY THIS VACUUM LINE WILL COME LOOSE OR THE VALVE (SMALL CANISTER) WILL GO BAD CAUSING THE CRUISE CONTROL NOT TO OPERATE

If the cruise control switch seems to work then the problem is in this area and is a little odd I know.

First thing is to check the hoses and cables on vacuum pump throttle control. Yes I know that sounds odd but there's a vacuum pump that is used to give the smooth accelleration feeling with cruize control. Crazy mitsu engineers.
Open the hood. On the far right there's a metal squarish box with a hard metal thin pipes comming out of it with one guiding the throttle cable to the throttle on the back of the engine. Another to a vacuum solenoid with a cable and a hose attached. It's a round can somwhere behind the engine on the firewall. Remove the control box and make sure there's a small right angle hose on the bottom that connects to the vacuum pump. unfortunately there's no easy test for the system as you have to be moving over 25mph to use cruise but i would start with the areas I've outlined and look for leaks or stuck cables.

Faulty Deactivation Switch for Cruise Control

No coincidence Pal. That cutout switch is part of the brake light switch and is easy to replace. It just screws into a bracket at the brake pedal lever and has a jamb nut on it to lock in position. Just get one from a parts store and replace it yourself.

How to fix the cruise control - won't hold speed!

Could be the problem; however it is more likely to be under the hood where the cruise actuator is located - check the electrical connections on the actuator and the linkage between the actuator and the accelerator lever on the engine. Also, if the cruise control uses a diaphragm to control the accelerator, it may be leaking or the vacuum line to it may have fallen off - check the vacuum at the actuator with the engine running.

My 2007 hyundai elantra cruise control isn't working. you press the cruise button then the set and the light just flashes up then disapears and nothing happenes

I bought my 2007 Hyundai Elantral about 8 months ago and have loved it! But on my way to work this morning, mine did the same exact thing that you have described here. I assumed it was a fuse (in denial about the fact that it could be something much more serious). Have you found anymore out regarding this problem since you posted this?

My cruise control doesn't work??...any

jnjkingbird, It sounds like this problem is the clock spring as I don't believe that the horn and the cruise control would share a fuse. However, they do share a circuit in the clock-spring. You can check for power at each unit (horn and the cruise control) which would confirm this. Check each fuse as well. Good luck with this.

Cruise control switch works sporatically.

Faulty product. I install cruise control for 6 years. One of the cables are hooked into the throttle and the other in the vaccuum actuator, since it is electronically controlled actuator, the object itself might be losing it's contents or frankly worded, is taking a nose dive. works much like a brake booster does.

Is it a PID system? (Proportional integral derivative system)
or is it just standard proportional?

That will play a factor.

If you just have one of those cheesy controls (cruise controls), than replace it, obviously it wouldnt of cost much. if it is not, check the actuator and replace it! Replace the Fuse, brush it with wire brush, clean up all connections.
You should be ready to roll!

Good Luck.

1993 mercury sable cruise control doesn,t work.

Please try this first, either go to a local wrecking yard or to car-parts.com and buy a cruise control module. Replace it and see if that solves your problem, I hope it will and thing it will. Good Luck and Merry Christmas, I am assuming you know how to check your fuses correctly.

Cruise Control Problems

Possibly a fuse if you haven't checked, My MAX a/c switch wouldn't light up or work so I looked at the fuses and the wrong fuse was in the blower and cig lighter so I changed them and the a/c is working perfectly so check to make sure the fuses are the correct ones or they possibly wont work!!!
