Your starter solenoid may be bad-sometimes you can tap the starter with a hammer and it will make it work until you can take it to autozone and have it tested-cheers Denny

SOURCE: Mazda 2005 RX-8 wont start... ran yesterday, lights on & sounds

I have a 2004 that had the same problem. It sounds like the engine might be flooded. The best thing to do is to remove the fuse to the fuel pump. It will be listed under the fuse cover under the hood. Mine was a 20 amp but check to be sure. With the fuse removed, crank the engine for a minute to remove any fuel flooding the engine. Replace the fuse and crank the engine in 10 second intervals without touching the gas or you will reflood the engine. This process can sometimes take awhile and will drain your battery, so have it connected to an additional power source ( i.e. another car battery or jump box). When the car finally cranks over there will be a huge cloud of smoke so don't be alarmed when it happens. Lastly some words to the wise. This process CAN ruin your starter, but is essentially the same process that the dealership will you except that they will remove the spark plugs to drain the fuel and then charge you for new ones. If this process doesn't work then you probably need new spark plugs which is going to cost quite a bit. I was quoted upwards of $525 to fix this problem until I talked to a Mazda mechanic and found out how to do this myself. Just make sure that the engine is up to running temperature before turning the car off and you shouldn't encounter this problem again. I hope this helps you, and remember that if all else fails the dealer can fix it. It won't be cheap, but they will get it done.

I almost forgot, you HAVE to get the oil changed as soon as possible because there is probably gas in the oil now.

SOURCE: Mazda RX8 starting problem

Check that your battery is fully charged. If it does not sustain a charge , replace it. Clean the cables and battery posts with baking soda and water mixture. About 1/4 cup to a pint. If it still does not turn with a fully chared battery, it is probably the starter that is bad. It will have to be replaced. One click usually means the starter is bad. Several clicks usually means the battery is bad.

Have you tried moving shifter slowly through all gears, especially neutral when trying to start ? Sometimes safety neutral switch will become faulty & some movement of shifter may make it turn over.

When trying to start i have to jiggle gear stick in the park position and turn key at same time before engine will fire over, sometimes it starts no worries.

This is your neutral safety switch - You can also try starting in N. It would need adjustment or replacement.

Turned the key and the car did not start, car was not firing and no noise from the starter ... then turned the key and the car started ... went out for drive and came home ... turned the key again and...

Hmmm it could be the ignition itself, sometimes the inside parts wear out and do not engage as they should. The next indicatioin that its your ignition is the key will stick in it from time to time. Als, I know this sounds wacky, but when it wont start, put your foot on the brake, put the car in neutral and try to start the car. See if this works also.

Vehicle cranks but wont start has good fire but no fuel pressure theft light is flashing car has not run in over a year ? what do i do to get the theft light to go out?

Turn ignition to run not start, count to 5,turn off key. Repeat this three times. Try to start vehicle. If its starts you are done. If not you will need to repeat turn ignition on count to 5 then turn off, 3 more times On the fourth time leave key in the run position for 10 minutes. Then turn key off & start vehicle.

Wont start does turn over has fuel pressure and

Hi,
I don't know what year, engine etc... but I can offer an idea or two for some basics:
1. Make sure your firing order is correct.
2. Check your timing.
(If you think good, make sure your not 180 out.. in case you pulled the distributor earlier)
3. Check compression. (I've had vavles stick before)
Hope some of this helps... Good luck

Pt wont start or turn over

try to get a jump from a friend and see what happens, does the same, faulty starter, may need replacing, try to use small hammer and tap lightly on the starter couple time and have a friend start the car while you tap lightly on it. check ignition switch where you stick the key in. stick the key in the ignition and turn the key back and forth jiggle and wiggle it and see if your igniting will make contact. do it several time to test and see if its the ignition problems, this part is not cheap to replace.
