My 2005 Sonata feels like my brakes are constantly on. When I let my foot off of the gas pedal the car immediately stops, when idling it will not move forward without a lot of gas. When I finally got to work I noticed a slightly sweet smoke smell, usually from overheating, checked the engine and everything was fine. A couple weeks ago my brake light wouldn't go off, my husband had to repair a button of some kind, could this have something to do with my current issue?

My 03 trailblazer does the same thing and the service dept. told me that it was normal for this model to do that, it has never failed to stop but if your sitting at a red light you can feel the peddle go down to almost the floor but it stops fine and it has done this since day 1 and they say thats normal on the trailblazer.
SOURCE: 2005 malibu where is the brake light switch?
There isn't one. This car has a "brake and throttle by wire" system and the brake light switch is inside of that. You have a bad brake position sensor. Figure $240 or so at a dealer.

If I understand you correctly, you feel a vibration it the brake pedal when you apply the brakes. Is that correct?
Have your brake rotors re surfaced; they are warped.
"engine makes cavitating noise" ....what does this mean?
SOURCE: Engine suddenly revs when stopped & @ idling
sounds like one of the metal arms connected to the engine may be getting stuck some how. have someone get in car and press on gas when car is off while you watch engine to see what is moving, then check those arms to see if there is any possible obstructions or knicks or something on them
SOURCE: when braking, engine revs up and car moves forward
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer with same exact problem. Even worse, my engine revvs so forcibly, that the truck moved forward and struck another vehicles.
You need to replace the oxygen sensor annually. My mechanic informed me that this problem is inherently prevalent in Fords.
Hopes this helps?
