Have you checked the brake light switch, sounds like it may be stuck.

Look under the dash. From the brake pedal pad follow the lever that the foot pad connects to. You will see an electrical switch with a push button. Try to push on the button and have an assistant see if the brake lights go off. If it does, the switch is ok. If the push button sticks into a hole on the pedal lever, your brake switch rubber stopper is missing. Its a small rubber button about the size of a dime. ( You may notice broken pieces on your drivers carpet) Get a new one from your Honda dealer and stick it in the hole, It should contact the brake switch button and turn off the brake light.

I have a 2001 pontiac aztek. The parking lamps and the tail lights will NOT shut off unless I disconnect the battery. The car also has a warning light that comes on and reads "Park Lamps Out". How do I fix...

Check brake switch near brake pedal most often it will be broken. sometimes you can try pulling up on the brake pedal to get the light to go out for a sec if that works it is the brake light switch. usually the warning light is tied to the actual light sockets it is also possible that the brake light switch went bad and from the tail lights staying on so long it may have melted the wires at the tail lights and now causing the warning light to light.

When i press the brake the dashboard lights turn on

Possible that the brake light switch shorts with the circuit, sometimes this can be a brake switch ground shorting through the dash boarrd ground circuit and turns the light on.
You need to disconnect the brake switch and trace the line. also check if the rear brake lamp circuit is shorting in the tail lamp assembly and so turns the dash /park light circuit ON.
This can happen if the tail lamp assembly /holder is shorting. So remove and check the tail lamp circuit/ the park/brake lights.

My car tail lights wont go off, unless the battery is disconnected. If you step on the breaks there is no change in the brightness. Check all fuses that I could find and they are ok .Please help, Thank you

The brake lamp switch is shorted and is staying on. Locate the switch on the brake section and replace. This is the reason that there is no change whne the brakes are pressed and the brake lamps are not through any switch but is connected directly. They may look like the tail lamp but it is the brake lamp that is ON.
So check this out., locate the brake switch to replace.

Tail lights not working, changed fuse and both bulbs.

If they are not working, meaning when you step on your brake pedal, then it is your brake light switch.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the wiring connector at the switch.
  3. Remove the switch lock nut.
  4. Remove the switch.
  5. Install the switch and adjust it so the brake lights are not on unless the brake pedal is depressed.
It's located right behind the brake pedal.

My tail lights stay on when I turn car off and put in park which is killing my battery, also my brake lights do not come on when i press brake pedal I checked fuses and they are good. I bought a stop light...

It sounds like your brake pedal switch is not working right. Are the lights on all the time, or just when you turn ignition off? If the former, it is bad brake switch. If the latter, you likely have a bad ground located somewhere in the wiring harness.

Most vehicles have the switch located on a small plate next to the brake pedal arm. Follow the pedal up the arm and to the firewall. Along the way you should see a plunger style switch that looks like the one that you bought. It might also be found inside or next to the brake booster under the hood.
