When i start the car in the morning, it starts up immediately. After driving, or idling until fully warm, if i turn off the engine and try starting after more than 15min, i have to crank for a while. Once it fires up, there is rough idling and strong fuel smell from the exhaust.
When warm, if i turn off and immediately start again, it fires up straight away.
Engine was overhauled 1 month ago. Before i had this done, engine started up straight away regardless of the temperature.
I have already replaced Distributor cap, rotor, ignition coil and coolant temp sensor. I have cleaned idle air control valve with carb cleaner, still no joy.
Vehicle has 4EFE engine, 1.3L 16valve EFI (japan import)

first, try to clean your throtle body with a good cleaner an a tooth brush, open buter fly and clean all around, front an rear, when starting it hold your gas pedal down until it starts letgo quickly but keep it running at 2500rpm until engine clears(some smoke may be heavy) this will help with idle problems and clean some carbon from valves and combustion chamber,.second your egr valve may be gettin partially stuck open, disconect hose from top of it, use a small bolt to plug vacum hose and drive it normally if problem doesnot occurs you need a new egr valve,
good luck.
The Toyota of your year is equipt with a map sensor,it is located on the firewall with a vacuum line leading directly to the intake manifold, This sensor measure engine load and adjust fuel accordingly. This is definetly the problem, make sure the vacuum hose did not come out,Look at the underhood emission sticker for it,it Toyota has a different name for it it might be called boost sensor or pressure sensor.
two things to check. First, check the EGR valve to see if it is sticking open. this valve is not activated until the engine is warm. This valve could also have a vacuum leak in its diaphragm so check the valve out thoroughly.
Second, there is an engine coolant temp (ECT) sensor that alerts the engine computer as to when the engine is warmed up. If this sensor is faulty and stuck in the full cold mode, it will tell the computer that the engine is cold even when it is fully warmed. The computer will then use the cold engine fuel schedule which is way too much fuel for a warm engine. The engine will run too rich and sputter. In this condition, the computer will schedule too much fuel for a warm start and the engine will flood. That is why you must wait for it too cool down and "match" the faulty sensor.
Note: the ECT has two wires going to it and is dedicated to informing the engine computer. It has nothing to do with the engine temp gauge on the dash board instrument panel. The sender for the dash gauge has only one wire. The two sensors are easily confused.
This idle condition is normal for a cold start, the computer is controlling the idle for proper fuel burn. It is not necessary to wait five minutes for the idle to come down. Allow about one minute before putting into gear and driving.
u might be having a problem on the brake master. rubber caps must have been worn out. you have to replce the REPAIR KIT. make sure the repair kit is the same as the old one. geometry of the parts is very sensitve.
I wouldn't drive it... when your brake light comes on, it means there's a serious fault with your brakes. They may not engage when you brake and there won't be any further warning other than the brake light
Sounds like electronic ignition problems, I had a truck and it started doing that and then it would not start at all hot. You would have to wait for it to cool completely, then it would start right up. Ignition module problem is what it sounds like.
I have looked for it, but there doesn't seem to be one.
I have the same problem with may toyota corolla gli 92 model, plz help us!
