Just had my 120000 service done on a XC90 which I just purchased. It was running just fine and then started to consume oil like crazy. Took it back to mechanic and he said the turbo is going out. No prior notice of any problems! Ran like a dream. Wondering if the 120K service and replacing all the hoses and belts could have brought this new problem on. It has 129K miles and I was looking forward to driving this for another 125K. I love my little Volvo!

There is the possibility, the turbo was going out and the previous owner had thicker oil with oil treatment additive in the engine, hiding the turbo seal problem.Did your service include an oil and filter change? Your new regular (proper viscosity) oil may now be showing the leaky turbo seal.Did you have a oil change done at your service?Once you have the seal/turbo rebuilt, may sure to always idle the engine a minute before shut off after fast driving. This will increase the life of the turbo seals.

SOURCE: Car stalls

Hey jkcalli!
Have you checked for any error codes?
Since your car is an 850 you should check your fuel pump relay, which is infamous for causing intermittent starting problems. Open the hood and remove the fuse box cover (4 torx screws), revealing the relays. If one of them is a green one marked 103 you should replace it with the newer, improved red relay. A used relay is cheap and should do just fine.

Also, you should be able to hear the fuel pump working when turning the ignition to on. After doing this a couple of times the pressure becomes high enough for the pump not to engage. If so wait for the pressure to drop before listening for it again.
Here's a topic with some info on the relay and how to check the voltage at the pump:http://www.volvo-forums.com/index.php?showtopic=15505&st=80&p=80586&#entry80586

If fuel delivery is not the problem you should check for spark. If you do not have spark the problem is likely coil, camshaft position sensor or crankshaft position sensor.
Good luck!

SOURCE: 2004 volvo xc90 rough idle at stop

If the idle problem occurred after replacing the plugs, double check your work. Make sure you installed the coils correctly and that you didn't pinch the coil wiring under the top engine cover. I would also be wary of anything other than the OEM plugs. I've seen too many issues from using aftermarket plugs on these engines.

2001 C240 ''Undervoltage Consumer Defective''

The same thing happened to me and it turned out to be the alternator. Need to replace your alternator. Easy check, start the car and check the DC voltage of the battery, with the car running you should read around 14 volts. If you are reading 12-12.25 volts then the alternator is not generating.
