Usually the problem is a faulty TPS, the sensor is out of adjustment, or there is a problem with the wiring harness. The sensor should read less than one volt with the throttle plate closed.

Testimonial: "already replaced the tps & adjusted it,still same problem. also checked the wiring to the tps & it all falls under specs. any other suggestions?"

SOURCE: what are the symptoms of a bad egr valve ina 1994 geo tracker?

this may help
EGR Theory. EGR serves one purpose and one purpose only. That purpose is to reduce Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). Undernormal combustion, Nitrogen(N2)Oxygen (O2) in the air and Hydrocarbons (HC) in the fuel combind into water(H2O) Carbon dioxide (CO2) and the Nitrogen remains unchanged. Under very hot combustion temperatures, the Nitrogen reacts with the other two byproducts and forms Nitrogen oxide (NO). After being released into the atmosphere, it picks up another Oxygen and becomes Nitrogen dioxide (NO2). In the presence of sunlight,
it combines with other compounds like Hydrocarbons and forms Smog. Since exhaust gas is inert (very stable) it doesn’t burn again. So by being introduced into
the combustion chamber, it will lower combustion chamber temps enough so that
the Nitrogen doesn’t react with the other compounds and is passed unchanged out
the tailpipe thus not contributing to smog. Now, since exhaust gas doesn’t burn, it
doesn’t exactly help with combustion. At higher RPM’s, this really isn’t noticable,
but at idle, the reintroduction of exhaust gas will cause a very rough idle and can
cause stalling if to much is introduced into the combustion chamber

SOURCE: 95 Geo Tracker - Automatic. Starts ok, but when

It needs a fluid change, and filter,in the transmission, also, add a additive called LUBEGUARD from napa auto parts, when you ask for the additive,be sure to get the one for gm,this additive keeps the valve body slick, and moving, this is the problem, your filter, and ,or,the fluid is dirty, and causing hydraulic problems, and valves to stick in the valve body in the transmission.

How to replace the tps on a 1991 tracker? the one i bought has 4 wires the one on the tracker has 6 wires

the 1991 G16a has a pig tail connector, must have 4 wires.
and shares the Injector connector (tricky pin pulls, and all)
that connector you gander is the injector /TPS connector
it has 6 pins but only 4 are for TPS. (yellow /.red are injector)
see page 3 below, for what all this means. last link below.

try to keep in mind, your car has a VIN engine code U (not 6) code 6 , has no pig tail, TPS.
GM uses U code to say, engine is 8valves, TBI, G16a , my guess, (no photos) is your bought TPS is
with tails, and is correct for your 8v engine.

Install, (need feeler gauges to do it)
it's not just thrown on to the car, it must be calibrated.
or the idle switch WILL fail.(and more)
one maker of this TPS is here: (hard to find)
SMP makes one. sMP #TH-147 is for 8V tbi.

http://www.fixkick.com/buy-parts.html#TPS
do not use 16valve parts on your car.

here is the calibration steps.
http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/tests/TPS-testing.html#8v_FSM_cal

the factory page is here
http://www.fixkick.com/TPS/TPS-p91.JPG

http://www.fixkick.com/TPS/TPS-p92.jpg

and page 3 here
http://www.fixkick.com/TPS/TPS-p93.JPG

the last page shows the tricky pin pulls....

you must pull the old pins.' one by one.
then put in then new TPS pins , in the same places of old
matching COLORS.
then do the calibration steps above, using feeler gauges.
same basic steps, from 1989 to 1998.
in 1999 they calibrate it to 0.5vdc, only.
later years, it auto-calibrates.
if the new TPS fails to cure the problem
post the symptoms, and win.

Symptoms of a bad tps

old post. but....
a great question, but on a tracker , the TPS , has 2 parts inside
cascaded as one part. so that makes answers harder.
the tests are here.
http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/tests/TPS-testing.html

  1. idle switch bad, means, idle never regulates.
  2. end idle side.
  3. throttle angle side, is complex. (as seen in scan tool)
  4. it detects drivers fast right foot actions and enriches fuel this prevents the hesitation, when you accelerate. if bad it does just that. but does still have full power up hills (after small hesitation) due to the MAF sensor seeing reality and correcting the TPS (errors) see?
  5. the TPS also triggers. cut fuel mode when you decelerate,
  6. and triggers cut off of EGR and .
  7. and triggers , anti snap your next mode , when you decelerate too fast it adds air via the ISC to prevent violent Deceleration.
  8. I told you it was complex the FSM book from Suzuki and GEO both stated all that. on the TPS page.

get the Factory Service manual, real, and see those pages.

Codes are reading low tps voltage, mapps high voltage ignition on low voltage at idle. Idle surges sputers and stalls when driving. Replaceed mapp and tps with no improvment?

Have you consider to check the battery power. I believe the main problem you have is either the battery or the alternator. Due to these two things with low voltage the brain ( ECU ) does not have the enough power to work. Good Luck.

Fan speed will only work on high,is the switch the problem

The switch is held on by 2 clip, on on the "high" side, one on the "low" side. If the low side came disconnected, it would only contact at "high". Fairly easy fix (tape or glue). Doubtful that the switch needs to be replaced. It is more likely the variable resistor, or rheostat, which allows less than full voltage to the fan motor. This would allow only full or no voltage to the motor with no "in-between".

check the TP Sensor. might need adjusted or replaced. Also could be the Catalytic converter. theres actually 2 on the exhaust and me living in Ohio we dont have emissions so im gonna hack both of um off and just run a str8 pipe from the header back. theres an extra fuse spot i believe its on the left side of the fuse panel. its raised up a lil higher then all the other fuses in it. throw a fuse in it and turn the key on the check engine light will blink a code or multiple codes. i.e. 2 flashes small pause 2 flashes is code 22 wich is the TPS. 2 flashes small pause 1 flash can also be the TPS 1 is low voltage the other is high voltage. but u can pull the whole list of codes from google type in 93 Geo Metro Trouble Codes Hope this helps
