Take a look at the neutral\park switch located on top of the tranny.

I believe your alternator is bad as well. Your computer will start turning off any aux. power (dash lights, stereo...) to keep the motor running which means battery isnt being maintained by the alternator.

yes those chem, melt seals. and do that.the front seal has nothing to do with the rear vacuummodulators, that love to leak, outs to the hose, and make engine smoke or leak to inside (unseen) and upset shifting .the transmission needs servicethe correct name for it is the 3L30. the 1991 G16a has a pig tail connector, must have 4 wires. and shares the Injector connector (tricky pin pulls, and all)that connector you gander is the injector /TPS connectorit has 6 pins but only 4 are for TPS. (yellow /.red are injector)see page 3 below, for what all this means. last link below. try to keep in mind, your car has a VIN engine code U (not 6) code 6 , has no pig tail, TPS.GM uses U code to say, engine is 8valves, TBI, G16a , my guess, (no photos) is your bought TPS is with tails, and is correct for your 8v engine. BY DESIGN. 91 is 8v TBI and does it more,(laws here force that with wet inducted fuel TBI (read nasty smog engine,cold)COLDER FAST TOO.turn key in say alaska (yah cold. start say 2000 rpm and in 3 to 30 seconds, drops to say 1500, (dash pot did that by ECU commands)then the IAC rules the roost a thermal device that opens even more at -10c , and races, until it hits 158F and closesthen ecu wakes and controls idle speed by software and regulates at 800rpmall do that. Brand new. or in perfect running order,if the 91 ever gets vacuum leaksit will race fast hot and coldwith full power and no misfiring.with leaks like that the ISC VALVE GOES OUT OF CONTROL.

old post 1991 a 8valve engine???? it ran before? or not? if not you did the diagnosis wrong, ask? does it crank? no, then. if you read the fsm it said disconnect battery first. forget to put it back? keyon, CEL lamp glows, it must or you blew up to 3 ECU fuses. say it cranks, fuel pressure not 34psi but 0 or 10 you did it wrong. http://www.fixkick.com/nostart.html the first test for dead fuel system after proving that is what check output of fuel pump relay for 11 to12v cranking if good the at pump. actual if no power to pump all old and new pumps are useless ask how to finish this process..

old post well there are many places for steering to go loose. a mech finds that exact spot, first. you didnt so there will be no answers its a hands on deal. when we find that SPOT we replace the part that is bad. even tilt steering parts i count the spots. over 12. if you need training on suspension and steering inspection i can direct you to ASE pages.
