There is a high pitch whistling noise can be heard in the engine compartment of 2005 envoy especially when engine is idling. It sounds like it is near the AC. But seems to lessen when AC is turned on.
There may be a small hole or cut in a vacum line or possibly just loose. Also make sure the air filter box and the big hose to it are secure and clamps etc are tight. Pulleys and belts can make a high pitch sound also.
To narrow it down and eliminate lots of other problems, take the serpentine belt off and start it and let it run for just 1min. Listen, if no noise, you can narrow down which accessory/pulley it may be.
That could be from the transmission. Check the transmission oil level. That sometimes causes a whining sound.
