P0440 p0456 2002 dodge intrepid

The car starts and runs fine for a few minutes then I begin to see smoke from under the hood. The smoke is coming from the tops of the engine with a smell of coolant. Also there is a seeping from top of engine. The temperature guage isnt even to the midpoint to indicate overheating.

The most common causes are oil leaks or coolant leak, you will need to locate the smoke and see whats leaking.

Odd 2001 Dodge Intrepid symptoms

You either have a thermostat or water pump problem. car is getting hot. Check to make sure you have no water leaks on the hoses or radiator. to check the thermostat, run the engine for awhile to get it hot and touch the upper radiator hose to see if it is hot . If so then the thermostat is working and the problem would be the water pump. hope this will help you.

Ran scans and came up with intermittant signal

replace the PCV valve, its cheap, causes THAT to happen when dirty, and takes about ten minutes if you are comfortable working under the hood.

I can drive my 1999 dodge intrepid for a while and cant start it

Many vehicles turn on the electric cooling fan if the temperature is high under the hood which prevents hard starting of a hot engine.
If yours never has had the fan run for a minute or two, then it isn't supposed to but if it did it once but now doesn't, the thermal switch that should turn it on has failed.
Try holding the gas pedal to the floor before turning the key; if it starts, then there was too much gasoline in the cylinders causing wet plugs which don't want to fire.

Heater doesn't blow hot air

First check the coolant level in the radiator. Check your heater core hoses on the firewall underneath the hood. Let the car come up to temp. and feel the two hoses. If only one of them is getting hot you may have bad heater core or a bad heater control valve.
