2002 Mazda Tribute won't start.

We tested the starter and realized that was going bad, so we replaced it. And still nothing. We try to turn the key and all we hear is a clicking noise. The battery was tested and it's good. Please let us know what we can try in order to get it fixed.

Try rocking it, it worked for mine, it had something to do with a sensor.

This problem is caused by burnt/worn contacts in the starter solenoid, it is a common issue on all Japanese designed gear reduction starters, they (the contacts) can be replaced, go to http://www.iowamotorparts.com/index.htm they have the parts, about $15, u will need a good set of auto skills to do this repair.

SOURCE: i have a 2000 mazda protege just replaced starter

check the ignition coil, if the coil fails car will not start!! it provides the maximum voltage for the ignition system. but be sure starter solenoid is ok. have a great day!! if this is a 1.8 then get in touch with dealership it may be on the recall list. give vin number! (the 1.6 and 2.0 this recall has no effect on you). the recall is for 99 thru 2000.

I tried to start my car this morning. There was no electricity at all and i mean at all, The power locks won't even work nothing. The car won't start, it's perfectly silent when you turn

You would need to use a meter or test light to find out what exactly is dead. It could be a short in the fuse box, or a bad connection in the harness, or at the battery or starter.
You may need a repair book or shop manual to get the wiring diagrams.
If nothing on the truck works, you would start at the battery cables and work back to the key switch.

Mazda Tribute won't start and has no electricity

This is a common problem with Mazda tribute and Ford escape. Replace the ignition switch. Actually, if you close the doors and turn everything off. Insert key and turn to on position, do not start, verify all dashboard lights come on. If they are, just press key in and jiggle around a bit, then try starting, u may have to do it a couple of times to start it. But, change the switch and possibly the key tumbler..do switch first and test. .then key tumbler if not successful. Both parts should cost less than $80..good luck.

P.S. you can replace the switch yourself, remove steering column 4 screws, switch has a yellow or white markings and is on the left of the column opposite the key side.

Your going to need to replace the alternator, it may be charging the battery slightly and enough to get through a few days of starting the vehicle, but you will need to get the alternator replaced.

You need to replace the alternator, it may be charging the battery enough to start the vehicle for a few days, but once the battery runs low, it cant recharge the battery, would have the alternator tested, but i'm pretty sure that is your problem. Hope this helps...

get it properly diagnosed at a reputable repair shop. does the dash stay lit when ur cranking?(turning the key all the way trying to start it) does the security light stay on or flash? im thinking a security problem. its not reading the key right possibly. not uncommon now for this to happen to newer cars.
