Bmw X5 reset code P0442 once fixed?

I just changed the fuel cap and want to reset the engine light to see if this will fix the problem...

  • Mike OSullivan Oct 30, 2017

If you have an Autozone, Advance Auto or O'Reilly's in your town, they will reset code for free as disconnecting battery is a chore and hassle having to remove spare tire.

Disconnect the battery for a minimum 24 hours, giving the computer time to reset when reconnected.

Depends on the engine, if its a M62, its under the hood, torwards the front drivers side. 9e6fcd7.jpgIf it a N62, it is on the underside of the vehicle, next to the oil drain plug. Its the black plastic housing with a 6mm allen bolt in it(thats used to drain the oil out before removal)25e2e14.png

SOURCE: How do you turn off BMW X5 tire pressure light

On some X5's you can do it through the instrument cluster whereas other through the button on the centre console depending on the spec.

On the centre console you'll find the tpc button. It looks like a flat tyre with an exclamation. With the ignition turned off, press and hold this button and turn on the ignition to position 2. You'll notice on the instrument cluster the light go red, yellow, off and then come back on yellow. When the light comes back on yellow release the button and wait with the ignition on until the yellow tpc button goes out. Thats it.

If this hasnt worked you have a different spec and therefore a different way of doing it! Let me know and il guide you through it.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: I have a 2003 BMW X5, how do I reset the service indicator?

Hi,

You can reset your service indicator, as follows:

  1. Get in the car, close the door, buckle the seatbelt.
  2. Push in the clutch pedal and hold it to the floor
  3. Press the left hand dash button (the one that resets your odometer) and hold it down
  4. Put the ignition key in the key slot, and turn it gently (very gently) until the dashboard lights come on - the key will not click - if it clicks you've gone too far and you have to start again. Hold the key in this position. In five seconds or so, the dash will display "SIA" and some other characters. Do not proceed until this happens.
  5. Release the dash button (and only the dashboard button) and then press and hold it again. In another 5 seconds or so the display should begin to flash "RESET?" Do not proceed until this happens.
  6. Release the dash button and push it again to confirm. You won't need to hold it - the display should change immediately and your service indicator will display five green LED's.
Hope this helps. Please remember to rate this answer. Many Thanks.

When Engine light came on 2009 Mercury Sable and got P0442 diagnostic code so how bad is diagnostic and how costly to fix?

code p0442 refers to evaporative emission system(EVAP)--small leak detected==causes-- hose connections,--intake leak--EVAP canister--EVAP canister purge valve
it also refers to large leak detected ( loose fuel cap/missing cap) causes--mechanical fault--hose connections---EVAP pressure sensor
If it has just started then check that the fuel cap is on tight or replace the pressure sensor or lastly ( it will probably the most expensive) the purge valve.

P0442 I got the check engine light in my GMC savana 2008 I get this code P0442 it said. a small leak in detected can someone please help me with this problem I reset the code 2 times already the first time...

The P0442 code is for a small leak in the pressurized emission system. It can be caused from something as simple as not tightening the fuel cap all of the way after fueling, or a leaky seal at the gas cap, or a leaky o-ring around a number of sensors and fittings in the emission system. If you are sure that you are tightening the fuel cap all of the way, and have already replaced the fuel cap and see no nicks on the seal on the fuel cap or fuel neck, you might need to have the vehicle hooked up to a smoke machine to try and find where the leak is coming from.

How to fix code p0442

On your Saturn it is likely a bad or loose fuel cap. Is there a lot of rust around the filler neck? If so try carefully removing it and then wiping the rubber gasket of the fuel cap with a bit of grease. Once you reset the code you need to drive the Vue for a a cycle in order to reset the sensor even though you have cleared the OBD code with a code reader.

P0455 and p0442

p0455-- emission control system ( a large leak ) the most common cause is a bad seal on fuel cap, remove and replace cap, if light stats on. replace cap. if not the cap it could be any where in emission system. p0442 is--same as above. Code p0442 indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. To fix this problem, remove and reinstall the gas cap. Clear the codes and drive to see if the codes reappear. If the code appears again replace the gas cap or inspect the system for cuts or holes in the tube or hose. good-day !

Engine light comes on and when scanned it comes up with a an error code p0442. It does not affect the operation of the motor.

p0442 is evap emissions control system leak ( small ). to fix, The first thing you will want to do is tighten or replace your fuel cap. This is the most common cause of this code. If that does not fix it then you should open your hood and inspect all hoses for damage. remove and reinstall the gas cap. Clear the codes and drive to see if the codes reappear. If the code appears again replace the gas cap or inspect the system for cuts or holes in the tube or hose. good-day !!

The "service engine soon" light

Hello,

A code P1092 for your vehicle says the fuel trims are trying to add fuel and the limit has been reached and this throws this code. More specifically Pre-Catalyst Fuel Trim Too Rich Bank 2. A rich condition could be caused by several things. You could have a faulty fuel pressure regulator, a leaking fuel injector or a clogged air filter. I would check the air filter to see if it needs replaced and have the code reset. If it comes back on then you will have to go to a technician and have them pull the actual BMW fault code with their scanner.

My fuel injection light came up on the dash board of my bmw x5 3.0 diesel. What is wrong and how much will this cost to fix.

Hello,
You will need to check your fuel pump and your injector nozzle in the engine. You will also need to check that you have enough fuel and your fuel indicator is working well. Injector engines usually do not tolerate low fuel levels. As for the cost of change, it will depend on where you are and what type of auto mechanic you are dealing with.

Cheers

P0442 check engine light code

The computer that read the code for you can also reset it.  If you don't have one, you can go to your local auto parts store and have them reset it for you.  This is what your code means P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak).  This is what Causes it and possible fixes: CausesA code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
  • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
  • A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
  • Other small leak in EVAP system
  • Faulty vent o-ring seal
Possible SolutionsWith a P0442, the most common repair is to:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
