95 honda civic ex speedometer does not work all the time. Want to check the speed sensor, 1st to see if it is lose or is dirty. Where is it located. Any other reason why the speedometer may not be working all the time?
There is a cable that also goes to cruise control check to see if it’s tight. Also check your smog hose that goes to the vacuumed line. The location is on the side of the driver on transmission see if it broke or is loose. Can’t hurt. There is a cable that also goes to cruise control check to see if it’s tight. The speed sensor might be bad. I used to own a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the same symptons. The car will start, but will not pass the 1st or 2nd gear, the speedometer will be at 0. I replaced the speed sensor and all the problems went away.
you need a new speed sensor. it bolts onto the the back of the transmission(towards the firewall) it is plastic and has one bolt succering it in place.
had the same problem w/ my 1995 honda civic lx. there is no speedometer cable in this vehicle. there is a speed controll sensor, if ur facing the front of the vehicle it is located on the left side just beyond the distributor cap/ below . its held by two screws. price range was about 75 to 125 ? i got my off a friends honda that no longer was running. bam! fixed
Most likely a speed sensor is going bad (most cars and truck do not use mechanical speedometer cables anymore) most sensors are located near the differential in rwd cars or near the drive shaft on the transmission. Best bet is to get a Haynes manual for your car to help locate the speed sensor. Remove it and take it to the auto parts store so you can visually compare it to the replacement. Install the new speed sensor and it should restore your speedometer and odometer.
When the D4 light flashes that is an indication of a problem with the
transmission. You need a speed sensor located on the transmission make sure to get the electrical part ths will solve BOTH problems.
You have a speed sensor on the transmission casing. Look in the front part of the engine bay down on top of the casing. It should be a little to the left between the radiator and the engine and has a wire plugged into it. It's pretty small and is very easy to replace.
A green flashing "S" is similar to a check engine light. It is telling you that something in or on your transmission is not functioning correctly, such as the speed sensor or shift control solenoids. If it starts flashing and the speedometer stops working or the transmission shifts weird, take it to a mechanic.
