We have a 1996 Chevy Cavalier with 2.2 engine. She is old but was able to drive me to work and back until my daughter run it out of gas. I (her mother) grabbed the can that said "gasoline" but it ended up being 2cycle oil mixed with gas. We have not been able to get it started since. We have tried to put high octane gas it, and sprayed starter fluid and gasoling with no luck. My husband finally got it started one night with gas pedal to the floor. It chugged for over an hour while going through a quarter tank of gas. Went back the next day and nothing, will not start. Feul pump is working (can hear it start when key is turned on). Changed fuel filter, still no luck. Checked fuses tonight, all good. We are out of options, need some help!! Any new suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Lisa
SOURCE: 2004 cavalier fuel problem?
Please call me its easier to explain on the phone, in the mean time try something easy hit the fuel pump on thebottom with a brick or rock then have someone listen to the fill neck of the tank for the two second "buzz" as soon as you turn on the ignition, has this vehicle been run way way low on fuel many times or the fuel filter neglected to been changed at the 15,000 miles interval?
call me or I can call you 253-691-6206
must be a relay take the relay out from another source and put it in the fuel pump side
SOURCE: 1996 CHEVY S-10 WONT START UNLESS I SPRAY STARTING FLUID IN
The Fuel pump is is in the gas tank.
The Fuel relay is in your glove compartment behind a panel on the left corner and the realy i believe is the middle one.
The Fuel filter is on the inside of the frame rail under the driver's door.
Note: the fuel pressure for the 4.3 I think is 66 psi and drops 6 to 10 psi at idle.
Good luck and hope this helps

Did you replace the relay for the day time running lights which for some dumb reason is mounted under the front bumper? Climb under and look straight up and you should see it...mine was mounted in about the center (on the frame in front of the radiator. Sounds similar to an issue I had and it cleared up once I replaced the part...had to get from dealer still.
