My car won't drive more than 15 miles per hour, it died while i was driving and it doesn't idle normally the check engine light also came on. The software was downloaded last year...what could it be?

there can be several resons for it. u need to check following:
1. check engine light is "ON" or not
2. there is change in engine sound or its louder?
3. are there jerks when u r driving?
i need to quickly see a mechanic immediately to avoid damage to engine
sounds like it could have ignition module failing,also possibly coil starting to go.I seen same problem on 92 hatchback,put module and coil on and runs fine.goodluck...
the ets light will come on when you have a driveability problem it would be the best bet the check the dtcs and fix those for the check engine light first clear everything then drive it.
when you disconnect the battery.when changing the starter.you lost computer memory.the computer is going through relearning its program.it effects idling.should clear up after driving around a day or two.if it keep stalling take it to the ford dealership to relearn to idle.
