Clutch fried on 2007 Hyundai Tuscon

The dealer says the clutch needs to be replaced. It smells like it is burning rubber, but works fine. It has 18,300 miles. I had to have a bent fork replaced two months ago. Are the problems related, and is this something I am doing, or just the car?

Yes they are related. I had the same thing happened to me the forks got bend so I had to replace the whole clutch system, clutch cover where the forks are at and the clutch itself. When they replace the clutch plate they should also replace the clutch cover or vice versa. I don't think it's you it's probably just the car. I suggest you have the clutch plate and clutch cover replaced.

Why are shifts noisy with burning smell?

You do not say whether it is auto or manual, but I assume manual, and by the sounds of it the clutch is slipping due to wear.

There is a test you can do. Start the engine, put it in 3rd gear, apply the foot brake, and let the clutch out. The engine should promptly stall, and if not, you need a replacement clutch.

Gears arent going and no acceleration and burning smell

You need to have a look at your clutch. The burning smell is the clutch slipping.

2007 Chevy Cobalt will shift through all gears, but won't engage in any.

if you can smell burnt friction material, and if possible see it around trans, ( will look like black fibers everywhere) you fried your clutch plate.

to all those posting about tuscon clutch problems.... seems this is a common prob..! my tucson 55 plate cdx (38k miles) is curently in repair . 1. i started having problems finding 2nd gear, this occured for a few weeks. 2. then i lost most of tension in clutch pedal,.
I got a mate to fit a new master cylynder (1hour work), and that seemed to resolve the problem.... but only for several weeks....! eventually i was unable to find most gears on selection.... the dealership fitted a new slave cylynder today (3.5 hours work) but called me to inform me it still has not resolved the problem and they will now replace the complete clutch system (6.8 hours work) sadly my warranty has just expired...!!
