2011 sonata shifter won't lock into place

Issues this week: Steering wheel had to be jerked to turn the key. Today: Using the steering wheel controls, I tried going through the preset radio controls and the up button would only go to preset 1 then 2. Then start back to 1. Stopped after a few times. Then, traction control went off and made me spin out at a green light. Then, gear shift won't lock into place. I put it into park, took out the key and started rolling backward. I jiggled the gear shift and it finally locked. It now won't go into park without jiggling the gear shift. Ideas? Is this all connected?

Unless it has to do with the power train, I'm out of my warranty.

Who told you that?Take it back and tell them to fix it,you are under warranty.

Do you have a warranty?If so take it back,it may have a recall.

Key won't turn, won't shift from Park

My 2003 Saturn l200 2.2 ecotec did this when the battery was dead. Put some juice on the battery, then the car came out of park, and I was able to remove the key. To the car, there's a vast difference between a sluggish battery and a dead battery. It may have enough amps to crank it, but it wont start w/out full output from the battery.

KEY WON'T TURN ON THE IGNITION

Hi Aldene, Your vehicle seems too young to have a problem with a worn key so I suggest that the problem was related to the position of the steering wheel and the tongue of the locking mechanism. Sometimes when the lock engages it is under the load of the weight of the front wheels, if they are not in the straight ahead position. A small movement of the steering wheel is usually enough to release the steering lock. Regards John

To fix your problem, you have to turn the steering wheel either to the left or right as much as you can, then try to turn the key in the ignition. When the steering wheel locks, the key won't turn. By manually holding the steering wheel out of the lock position, the key will turn again and you're steering column will be back to normal.

neutral safety switch on the driver side of the trans where the shift cable hooks up.

Cannot turn key in ignition to start car

Hi nicoleelgert, i suspect the steering lock is giving you the problem, all you need to do is turn the steering wheel left and right ( jiggle ) while turning the key in the ignition, it won't move much because it's locked but it will be enough to release the steering lock and allow you to turn key.. make sure you have the shifter in Park position too. Turned steering wheel after powering off cuz I am parked on a hill...it locked up and now the ignition is locked too...how can I start the car?

your steering wheel lock is connected to ignition in column, pull hard on steering wheel in direction wheels are turned at the same time turn key, this should free them both up.

Cannot get key to turn in jeep. Have already driven it numerous times today, suddenly can't move steering wheel or gear shift and key will not turn. Help!

Try turning the steering wheel (hard) right and left while turning the key. Steering lock , and ignition lock work in conjunction with each other.

Put key in today and key will not turn.

try holding the steering wheel to one side while turning the key, if it doesn't work try holding the steering wheel to the otherside.
