Blinking d4 light with intermittent speedometer

This problem just started yesterday. I can shut the car down and everything works, but the blinking D4 light on the dash and the intermittent speedometer problem may/may not act up again. Yesterday when it started it was just the D4 light on the dash acting up. Maybe this was an indicator that there was going to be a speedometer problem. Transmission seems to shift properly.

I'm assuming that they are connected since the D4 light started blinking yesterday and the speedometer began bouncing later in the day. It was going from 60 mph to 0 and back up and sometimes anywhere in between. The transmission does not have any issues, and I hope none begin. Does the D4 light blink when the speed sensor begins to go out?

Usually it means the speed sensor in the transmission is failing.
The blinking light means your overdrive may not work.

It can when the speed sensor fails, because the computer needs the sensor to know when to engage overdrive.

SOURCE: I have a honda 94

What a coincidence.. i got the same problem with my accord 3 months ago.. The problem is with your speedometer.. there is a Electrical socket in your transmission that is connected with your speedometer. It has a gear that winds up with the transmission to tell how fast your going. Check the socket if its wet or if there a good connectivity. If it doest work, your socket is doomed..just replace it.. and your good to go.

SOURCE: My D4 light is blinking

The blinking D4 light indicates a transmission problem. If someone installed the trans and engine for you, bring it back to them to determine what the problem is, as it should be under some type of warranty hopefully. If you did the swap yourself, I would scan for codes (free service at parts stores) to see if any come up. Last, you could try disconnecting the neg. battery cable for about 10 minutes, reconnect, which should reset the computer and the light should go off. If it comes back on, there is some kind of problem still.

SOURCE: I just bought a 1997 accord with an automatic

you need to go to a parts store and have them scan our OBD, its free. If the incorrect fulid was used it will cause you problems.

1995 Honda Odyssey automatic. randomly it will have a slight jerk, then check engine light comes on and d4 light blinks while driving on freeway. the speedometer works fine when these lights appear...

First thing to do is have the computer checked for trouble codes. The blinking D4 light means overdrive is not going to function, probably because of the rough running engine.

what does it mean when you have a d4 blinking light and your speedometer doesnt work on a 99 acura tl-3.2L and you just had the transmission replaced. could it be a bad solenoid, vehicle speed sensor or do i just need a new TCM?

D4 light started blinking, speedometer stopped working and mileage gauge

Vehicle speed sensor. Top of the tranny is a connection. From this, a cable runs to the back of the odometer. Probably need to replace it

2000 civic ex D4 light flashing

Maintenance Warning light. The Transmission Control Module would trigger the D4 light to blink to indicate an error has been detected in the control system.

When the speedometers intermittently fails due to a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor, a trouble code would be stored in the TCM.

The VSS is failing and replacement is due. Scanned the module in order to know specifica fault code.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

D4 blinking, spedometer not working, check engine light on

Hi, a few questions 1st. Did your mechanic check for engine codes? Is your Honda a v-6 or 4 cylinder?
The flashing D4 light indicates a possible transmission malfunction. You should avoid rapid acceleration until the cause of the light blinking is determined.
If you have the V-6, there is a diagnostic port to connect a scan tool to read any stored engine codes that have turned on the check engine light. This port is located behind the ashtray in the center console (most cars did not have this til 96).
If you have the 4 cyl engine, there is a service connector located under the dash on the pass. side. Inside the connector is what looks like a 2 wire plug should be attached. Take a paper clip, unbend it, and insert the 2 ends of the clip into the connector to 'jump' it. Turn the ignition switch to the on position (don't start the vehicle), and the check engine light will flash. Count the flashes, short flashes are for code #'s 1 to 9 (single digit code), a 2 digit code will be a long flash for the 1st digit, followed by a short flash for the 2nd digit. If there is more than one code, they will be separated by a pause. They will repeat so you can count them and write them down. Let me know what the code #'s are so I can help further. Curt

Speedometer an check engine lights

Try to find the speedo-cable from the firewall down the the transmission. Usually on auto trannys the speedo head (the signal generator which is a gear basicly) is located on the top of the tranny, of course attached to the speedo cable. If it's a 'drive by wire' car and there's no cable - it will require more investigation.
