Theft lock 2005 Cobalt

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, I had to replace the Body Control Module as it got wet and shorted out. (Light flood) The radio is locked which is one problem, but the biggest issue is that I believe that the Theft Lock feature will not allow the car to start. Everything other that the radio works fine, the ignition seems to work fine, but when I turn the key to start the car, it does not crank and the security lock light comes on in the dash. The battery is fully charged, and I can jump across the starter and the engine will crank fine. It might have been a mistake, but I tried using a remote start button on the starter while the key was on, the engine would start run about 10 seconds and die.

Any ideas??

If the BCM has been replaced, the BCM has to be reprogrammed by a dealer as it control many car functions.

2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. How to get past the antitheft system on it please.

A nice simple answer, you can't. Think of it this way, the car doesn't know you are the owner, and it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You have two computer ECM and BCM, plus the antitheft module and a number of sensors all trying to stop you. All you have to do is the re-learn procedure. Plan B is an auto electrician or alarm / radio installer or auto locksmith.

30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

Replaced ignition switch vehicle will not start appears to be computer code

Is there a computer related code which I must enter via the radio ??? You don't enter anything through the radio !!!!! Having factory service repair info so you can read how the anti-theft system works an a scan tool to pull DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes is the proper way to diagnose .
The theft deterrent system has been incorporated into the body control module (BCM). The theft deterrent is provided in order to prevent the vehicle operation if the correct key is not used in order to start the vehicle. The ignition key turns the lock cylinder. The cylinder rotation produces an analog voltage code in the Passlock™ sensor. This voltage code is received by the BCM. The BCM compares the voltage code to the previously learned voltage code. If the codes match, a class 2 message is sent from the BCM to the powertrain control module (PCM)/vehicle control module (VCM). The message enables the fuel injectors.
The design of the Passlock™ system is to prevent vehicle theft by disabling the engine unless the ignition lock cylinder rotates properly by engaging the correct ignition key. The system is similar in concept to the PASS-Key® system. However, the Passlock™ system eliminates the need for a key mounted resistor pellet. The components of the Passlock™ system are as follows:
• The ignition lock cylinder
• The ignition switch
• The Passlock™ sensor
• The Body control module (BCM)
• The security telltale
• The vehicle/powertrain control module (VCM/PCM)

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

How do I set the anti theft light in my newly purchased 2006 chevy cobalt-I have manual locks and don't understand how you would set it.

If the light is on it means you have a security concern and will need a scan tool to find out the code. You will need a gm scan tool or one that can read body contol module/theft module data.

Would anti theft cause car to quit

Sounds like a bad ignition switch have ur body control module checked for codes if u have a B2960 and or B3033 then replace the ignition switch.

SECURITY
If your vehicle has the remote keyless entry system, this feature allows you to select the method used to arm the vehicle's security system. When SECURITY appears on the display, press the reset button to scroll through the available settings:
* RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) (default): The content theft-deterrent system will arm when the lock button on the remote keyless entry transmitter is pressed or when the power door lock switch is pressed.

* PASSIVE: The content theft-deterrent system will arm itself 60 seconds after the ignition has been turned off and all of the doors have been closed.
