2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. How to get past the antitheft system on it please.

A nice simple answer, you can't. Think of it this way, the car doesn't know you are the owner, and it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You have two computer ECM and BCM, plus the antitheft module and a number of sensors all trying to stop you. All you have to do is the re-learn procedure. Plan B is an auto electrician or alarm / radio installer or auto locksmith. 30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

2006 Chevy Cobalt. It has a good battery. The alternator tested good. The battery goes dead while running but doesn't sitting overnight.

Question edited for clarity. Question moved to model category. Jeff's great answer ^^^Up There^^^ is better down here as a Solve. Jeff Armer Aug 20, 2022 With it running test voltage at the battery. Sounds like it's not charging the battery. Had alternator check? is good, but that doesn't mean it's working in the car. The charging system in your vehicle is computer controlled, is the battery light lit in the instrument cluster ? Could have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored . Do you know if your car has regulated voltage control or is a none regulated voltage control system. Charging System Description and Operation (w/RVC) Electrical Power Management (EPM) Overview The electrical power management (EPM) system is designed to monitor and control the charging system and send diagnostic messages to alert the driver of possible problems with the battery and generator. This EPM system primarily utilizes existing on-board computer capability to maximize the effectiveness of the generator, to manage the load, improve battery state-of-charge (SOC) and life, and minimize the system's impact on fuel economy. The EPM system performs 3 functions: • It monitors the battery voltage and estimates the battery condition. • It takes corrective actions by adjusting the regulated voltage. • It performs diagnostics and driver notification. The battery's condition is estimated during key-off and during key-on. During key-off the SOC of the battery is determined by measuring the open-circuit voltage. The SOC is a function of the acid concentration and the internal resistance of the battery, and is estimated by reading the battery open circuit voltage when the battery has been at rest for several hours. The SOC can be used as a diagnostic tool to tell the customer or the dealer the condition of the battery. Throughout key-on, the algorithm continuously estimates SOC based on adjusted net amp hours, battery capacity, initial SOC, and temperature. While running, the battery's degree of discharge is primarily determined by a battery current sensor, which is integrated to obtain net amp hours. In addition, the EPM function is designed to perform regulated voltage control (RVC) to improve battery SOC, battery life, and fuel economy. This is accomplished by using knowledge of the battery's SOC and temperature to set the charging voltage to an optimum battery voltage level for recharging without detriment to battery life. The Charging System Description and Operation is divided into 3 sections. The first section describes the charging system components and their integration into the electrical power management (EPM). The second section describes charging system operation. The third section describes the instrument panel cluster (IPC) operation of the charge indicator, driver information center (DIC) messages, and voltmeter operation. Charging System Description and Operation (w/o RVC) Circuit Description The generator provides voltage to operate the vehicle's electrical system and to charge its battery. A magnetic field is created when current flows through the rotor. This field rotates as the rotor is driven by the engine, creating an AC voltage in the stator windings. The AC voltage is converted to DC by the rectifier bridge and is supplied to the electrical system at the battery terminal. When the engine is running, the generator turn (on) signal is sent to the generator from the powertrain control module (PCM), turning ON the regulator. The generator's voltage regulator controls current to the rotor, thereby controlling the output voltage. The rotor current is proportional to the electrical pulse width supplied by the regulator. When the engine is started, the regulator senses generator rotation by detecting AC voltage at the stator through an internal wire. Once the engine is running, the regulator varies the field current by controlling the pulse width. This regulates the generator output voltage for proper battery charging and electrical system operation. The generator F-terminal is connected internally to the voltage regulator and externally to the PCM. When the voltage regulator detects a charging system problem, it grounds this circuit to signal the PCM that a problem exists. The PCM monitors the generator field duty cycle signal circuit. Charging System Indicator The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the charge indicator in the message center when the following occurs: • The powertrain control module (PCM) detects that the generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a serial data message from the PCM requesting illumination. • The IPC determines that the system voltage is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. The IPC receives a serial data message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the system voltage. • The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. The indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds. • The ignition is ON, with the engine OFF. Did you test for battery voltage on larger wire on the back of the alternator - could have a bad wire -corrosion inside you can't see . Could also have blown fusible link on that wire - comes from the starter B+ post. Does it have a Battery Current Sensor on the negative battery cable - battery negative post ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI4Jn4Ho... ..

My 2006 chevy cobalt wont run in drive it dies but will run good in reverse

On some old Buicks and Oldsmobiles the overdrive would stick on. A bandaid cure for them was to unplug the cable under the hood, but you no longer had overdrive. I heard that changing the transmission fluid would clear that up. There's no overdrive in Reverse.. placing the car in 1st or 2nd gear could bypass o/d also if they don't use the same gear set. Once up-to-speed, place the car in Drive. This only works if the reason the car dies is it can't accelerate in that high a gear at such a slow speed.

I guess you have no knowledge about vehicles made for the last 35 years, since 1980 We have computers that monitor things & operate the vehicles You surely have heard of checking for OBD Codes You have an Evap System problem to find & fix & it does not have to be a failed gas cap Ever read your owners manual, their not of much use, but you have to get all that down first

R&r starter to 2006 cobalt ls

Park your Chevy Cobalt on a level surface, activate the emergency brake and place blocks behind the back tires for safety. Disconnect the negative battery cable with a terminal puller. Raise the front end of the car with a jack for easier access to the starter. Remove the intercooler pump's outer bracket in models with a 2.0L engine. Place the bolt, and all other nuts and bolts, into the jar for safekeeping until later. Disconnect the starter electrical connections, including the S-terminal and positive battery cable. Label the wires if you have concern about remembering where they go when you install the new starter. Unscrew the starter mounting bolts and remove the starter from the vehicle's engine. Take your malfunctioning starter to the parts store with you. Aftermarket distributors remanufacture most of the starters they sell, so you can likely obtain a partial credit toward your new starter by exchanging your old one. Be sure that you take care not to damage the starter in transit, because the better condition it is in, the more you can get for it. Purchase a replacement starter that has the same or higher cranking capacity (power rating) as the original starter. Also, match the bolt patterns, drive gears and electrical connections. Your owner's manual may list specifications or the auto parts technician will help you determine them. Download a free owner's manual by registering with the Chevy Owner Center (see Resources). Install the new starter by reversing the removal process. Torque the starter mounting bolts to 37 foot pounds (50 Nm). Tighten the bolt for the intercooler pump bracket to 15 foot pounds (20 Nm). Lower your Cobalt back to the ground. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the key in the ignition to see if your new starter motor functions correctly.

Hi how to set a timing belt tensioner pulley when replacing 2011 Chevrolet aveo

Tensioner pulleys are designed to be 'Self Adjusting'. These pulleys are on spring loaded arms so they automatically push against the belt keeping it tight. You use a socket or a spanner to swing the pulley arm back against this spring. *Note* This is a powerful spring so BE CAREFUL when your working on it! A lot of these tensioners have two small holes to help with installing a belt. When you swing the tensioner arm back these two holes line up with each other. You can then slide a hex key, or something similar, through both holes and it holds the arm back giving you space to get the belt on. *Caution* When your ready to release the tensioner DO NOT just pull the hex key out!! With the socket or spanner you used to swing the tensioner arm back push the arm against the spring again, carefully pull the allen key out then Carefully release the pressure on the spring so the pulley sits correctly and tensions the belt.
