Thank you for your quick response! The battery is less than 4 months old and if it was the senors should the check engine light be on?

  • christoph484 Jan 08, 2009

Check to see if i was getting gas to the injectors, as well as check the spark/fire to the plugs and both seems to be find. What else can i check?

    THANK YOU!

  • christoph484 Jan 08, 2009

Just the factory alarm with a kill-switch, but would the engine turn over if that's the problem?

  • christoph484 Jan 08, 2009

I think I'll try changing the crank sensor myself first and see what happen, before sending it to a shop.

Thank you once again for your help and i really appreciate your responses, and let me know if anything else comes to mind

  • christoph484 Jan 08, 2009

Yes, I'm getting spark and fuel, and now I'm being told it could be my timing belt. What do you think about that and do you have any ideal how much that will cost me at a shop? Also what can i do to check the alarm system?

  • christoph484 Jan 09, 2009

Maybe not a timing belt, but what about a timing chain that suppose to be behind the water-pump. As for the alarm it's just a standard factory system w/remote and pull-out kill switch.

  • anthonybad1 Jan 11, 2009

I recently noticed that the alarm light is on in my Durango. How do i reset my factory alarm?

  • christoph484 Jan 11, 2009

Just F.Y.I.: I had the truck towed to a shop and they seem to have fixed the problem, saying i needed a major turn-up? I didn't really believe that, because i just had a turn-up about 5 month ago, by my personal mechanic, but could i do when they already had my car for towing and the diagnostic ($128)? ONLY COST ME $65 FOR TOWING $281 TURN-UP "WHAT A DEAL"

    Thank You! for your assistance.

i also have a 1999 durango that wont start. everything is firing, but will not start. Help

  • elliottgraha Jan 31, 2009

5.9L Durango wont start. It's turning over and Im getting fuel (sprayed starter fluid in the intake and still nothing, and fuel comes out of the valve on the fuel rail when pressed) and I believe it's getting spark. I pulled the ignition wire off of the ignition switch and while cranking there was an arch between the wire and switch, however when I tried the same thing at the distributor there was no spark. I have replaced the rotor still nothing. The battery is brand new. Could it be the crank sensor, or just a few bad wires/spark plugs?

  • Anonymous Apr 15, 2013

try the crank sensor, that's what was wrong in mine, it was not caught by any code

  • karl sartor Sep 21, 2013

To reset the factory alarm; close all the doors lock the driver's door using the key then unlock the door using the key. this should reset the alarm. Hope this helps and good luck.

CHECK BATTERY, MAY BE GOOD TO TURN OVER BUT NOT ENOUGH VOLTAGE TO FIRE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. ALSO COULD BE A FUEL PUMP OR CRANK/CAM SENSORS..GOOD LUCK

NOT ALWAYS COMES ON. I SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THAT THE MIL DIDN'T CAME ON. MOST LIKELY IS THE FUEL PUMP, ALSO COMMON

I have just resloved this issue, It turned out that the car would try to crank over but would not start it was the coil, the spark on the coil is supposed to be blue and jump 1 inch, it was orange yellow color and would only jump 1/4 inch. Replaced this after taking it to shop. Fixed issue

  • Gwebberiii Dec 21, 2010

It's the coil or coil wire. Just fixed my 1999 Durango after testing pretty much every sensor. Check the coil resistance with a meter. I guarentee that's the problem, especially if it has been raining. Moisture causes havoc on newer vehicles.

I have a 2004 dodge durango 5.7l with the hemi, won't start

I would start by checking the basics which are checking for spark and fuel. If you have a gauge, check to see if you have fuel pressure when the key is turned on. If you have fuel pressure, check for spark. Chrysler products are known for the crank shaft sensor to go bad and cause a no start. Also, if driving for a certain period with the pedal depressed at the same speed, the throttle position sensor will stay at that position if stuck and will cause either and driveability problem or stalling. You may wanna look into replacing or at least checking that. Good luck.

I have a 98 Dodge Durango. I went to the store last night and it drove there fine. When I came out and tried to start it again I started with a very low idle and then died. It kept doing this every time...

There is a way you can scan the computer/electrical system without having a high dollar scanner or having to pay a garage to pull the codes up for you.
When you put the key into the ignition , do not start the vehicle. What you need to do is to turn the key on and then off. Do this 3 times without starting the vehicle. When you turn it on the 3rd time , leave the key on . After you leave the key on for the 3rd time if you have a digital odometer it will display a code such as P1470. After all codes are displayed you can look them up online. If you havea mechanical odometer you will have to count the number of flashes the check engine light flashes. You can look it up online how to count the short and long flashes to determine the code. Codes can be pulled like this only on Dodge's.
Good luck.

Engine turns over but will not fire

Probably a bad fuel pump. Known to fail from one turn of the key to the next.
