My ford explorer is dying a couple pf times a week

Idle Air Control valve, or other.

Check for vacuum leaks.

Have someone feather the gas pedal while you listen carefully to the engine. If the leak is bad enough you'll probable hear it.
More than likely, it's either a vacuum hose or the o-rings under the intake manifold.

have the check engine light checked at a parts store its usuall free. I would bet its the idle air control motor. This controls the fuel air mixture at idle

your throutel is sticking clean it with throutel cleaner also your fuel injectors are shooting to much gas have them checked

i would take it back to wherever you got it worked on and let them figure it out.

Do you have a keyless entry? You could try to enter your vehicle using the keypad on the drivers side door, This should turn off the anti-theft security.

I had the same problem. I would get to a red light or stop sign, and my tach would go to 1000, then 500 then, if I didn't rev the motor, it would die. It turned out to be a vacuum leak. A rubber elbow shaped 1" line on the top of the motor, toward the front, but underneath the black plastic linkage cover (3 screws to remove). I don't hear that well, but I had a friend listen, and he could hear the sucking/hissing sound. The rubber elbow slides over two pipes; one that is going to the front of the vehicle, then turns right and connects to a second pipe going to the driver's side. If not this line, look for others. I know the 4wd lights flash a code and I have replaced a transfer case control module on one before but as for the clunk and engine dying maybe it is a combination of more than one problem

it could be your fuel pump.. give that a shot. hopefully it helps

Sounds like you are losing vacuum pressure. I would have a mechanic check all your vacuum lines. I had the same problem a while back and all it was was a broken 92cent hose.
