Is there anyway to turn off running light on my 99 silverado 1500? I know if you apply parking brake before starting they won't come on, but when you release brake they come on!
Remove the fuse! The fuse box under the hood has the DRL (daytime running light) fuse. The underside of its lid should tell you which one. Either that, or just remove the bulbs from their sockets.
If ALL the lights (head, tail, dash, etc. are coming on all the time), then those aren't DRL's. There's a light sensor (little round black dome) on top of the dashboad in the middle front nearest the windshield. They sometimes fall down inside the dash (where it's dark!) and this triggers all the lights to come on when the ignition is on.
1999 Chevy/GMC full size trucks + Suburban/Tahoe By the right driver's knee under the dash is a fairly elaborate aluminum finned heat sink. It can be removed by bending the two bottom retaining clips, sliding it down, and unplugging the electrical connector. Presto, chango, no more DRL's! Plus it makes a nice paperweight.

(and maybe some others), have a temporary disable. Engine running, push DOME OVERRIDE button 4 time within 6 seconds; and if you did it right, it will beep, and the DRLs will be disabled, until you turn the truck off. Half-assed, but better than nothing.

(probably same for 96-99 C/K). There is a cigarette pack sized finned black heat sink (this is a double diode, 2 volt drop) located near the steering column. Unplug the 2 wire connector, this will remove DRL on any GM car using low beam DRL. (Will not defeat the auto ON)

At the bottom of the dash about where your right knee is there is a small bulge. Under this bulge is a 2" square finned relay (actually a 2volt drop diode) Use pliers to bend retaining bracket. Remove and unplug.
1999-2006 Chev/GM full size trucks with dedicated DRLs. Some people have put in amber bulbs, I suggest dead bulbs or remove them altogether. These DRLs burn out frequently. Also, if one amber bulb burns out, the remaining functioning bulb may be interpreted as a turn signal!
99 Silverado: Under dash at the emergency brake
assy. is a blue wire with a copper strip attached, bend this copper off of the park brake gears. This kills the auto on. Now you can use the lights manally. You still have to deal with the ding ding sound. You have to kill this off. Under dash to right of column is a black box. take this down, pull off the connectors, open box and take out buzzer. Now lights work like back in the day.good luck.
Yoohoo I had a problem with my headlights, thanks to this site,it was my emergency brake pedal that was just a notch inside,so I assume it would be easy to disable the daylights from the e break switch or just push it in a bit. Sylvain gmc 3500 dump+ plow
What i did was replace the DRL sensor on the dashboard with a white LED. it don't have to be white, i just like how it looks.
Now i control the truck, the truck does not control me.
to replace it you will have to remove your radio.
Haven't seen or Heard of anyone successfully Disabling these Running Lights Yet. Let me know if you happen to Stumble across a Fix!

The daytime running lights on my 3500 do not come on. The previous owner spent $200 at the dealer to find out they didn't have any idea why the daytime running lights don't work. These trucks have been around for a long time and still GM has no clue. What a mess.
When you punch the gas it bogs down.
