Could be the thermostat or coolant heat sensor

  • akjunrazz Mar 28, 2009

I have a 1992 Jaguar xj6 Vanden Plas and we thought it was the fuel pump, got another and changed it. Cost too much as I'm in Alaska and now its doing the same thing. I have twice now found it may be the thermostat or coolant heat sensor. We will try that. Too bad the codes are not in the manual so thanks for answers!

This is the most common error code, just means the one of the nods in fuel pump misfired, on every model other than the ones for usa market, after clearing the error code on vcm the check engine light would reset. for our cars its programmed to stay on.
also get fail 17 fuel 17 same thing
it will not effect the running of the car or its performance
may run a little rich

I HAVE A JAGUAR XJ6 3.2 1994 , AN NEED THE IGNICION AMPLIFIER CIRCUIT, IS MY FAIL I THE COMPUTER CAR FAIL 24, SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

Typically code 24 is reserved for the ecu to ignition amplifier. Recheck your fault code by just switching the ignition to "on", wait 5 seconds, then re-check your code(s). Code 24 is uncommon, and very few people have documented this

Other possibilitie is the ignition amplifier is bad or the connection is corroded. The part is easy to get to, and is easily replaceable, but I would not suggest trying to test it yourself unless you know how to use a voltmeter.

If you want to replace it I would first buy a Haynes manual and follow the instructions (they have pictures).

Check additional details in the Jaguar Online Manual in this link: jag-lovers.org/ebooks-index; check the section 10 Engine >> 10.14 Ignition amplifier module (need to register for free).

Also, check this interesting info AJ6 4.0L Engine Management System Diagnostic Guide (pdf format).

Hope this helps; keep us updated.

What does the check engine light vcm code "fuel 14 /fail 14" mean on my jaguar xj6?

this has to do with the engines ability to warm up and meter the fuel. either the thermostat is sticking or the coolant temp sensor is out of range. there are 2 of them at least, one for the guage and one for the pcm. if you find it is the t-stat sticking, replace with jaguar parts.

94 jaguar fault code fuel fail 12

Check MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR , try to get a used one and fit to the car , it is very easy to install. And by the way the MASS is the part that is in connection with the air filter , the one that has an electrical connector. When installing make sure that it is tight and no leaks. This answer was based on your description and code supplied hope this would help

Fuel 46 and fuse 46 is the coed i get with vcm. the check engine light came on but it runs and starts great. no other lights have come on. i did look in my manual, but fuse 46 and fuel 46 is not in there....

Fuel fail 46 is emission related and if I remember is related to the oxygen sensor/catalyst. I would reset the code by disconnecting the battery for 45 second and if it comes back on then start with a proper diag.
DO NOT REMOVE THE BATTERY TERMINALS UNTIL YOU MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RADIO CODE
Your welcome to email me with any other issues and if you dont have the radio code
