#5 cylinder misfire

2004 Mazda MPV 60,000 miles. Took van to Autozone to check the Code. Code shows #5 cylinder misfire. Changed spark plugs. Problem went away. Now its back. On cold days slight rough idle at 1st start up. No engine light. Drove van 10 miles and engine light came on and was flashing. Parked van 2 hours. Drove 10 miles back and no problems. Can I move the coil pack to see if problem follows? Thanks.

Thanks but my MPV does not have plug wires. It has a coil pack on top of every spark plug. I don't know if the coil pack could be
    Intermittent.

I have a corolla and had #4 cylinder misfire also diagnosed at autozone. After changing the spark plugs, problem persisted, along with the same error code, so they recommended changing the spark plug wires, and that is what fixed it. I would have changed the rotor cap too, but was low on dough. Glad that was not the problem.

Yes, it's around $470 with tax at the dealer for all 6 coils & secondary coils, the plug wire equivalent. Look for a better price online. Once you get the hang of removing/replacing the intake plenum, it's not that hard. I replaced all 6 at 70k miles and now she's running great again.

Time to change the coils. I'd replace them all as they will start to go bad one by one and continue to give you misfires. The three that are fun to get to are 1,2,3 and you have to remove the intake plenum to change them.

I have a mazda mpv 2000 minivan.problem code p0301 misfire detected cylinder#1

I'd check #1 spark plug.
Usually a misfire code "fix" is a spark plug, spark plug wire, or a coil pack / distributor.
Keeping it simple...I'd go with the spark plug first and then look at the condition of the wires.

Hope this helps...

Misfire cylinder #4 was indicated as a result of the check engine light. How do you fix this or how much might this cost to fix? Frank

A Cylinder Misfire Code is usually a very simple fix. Most of the time it just means you may need to change the spark plugs especially if you haven't changed them in a long time, you may have a clogged fuel injector from having a dirty fuel filter. The least expensive thing you can do right now is to replace all of the spark plugs first and than go from there.

What could be the cause of a p0304 code on my 2005 mazda mpv. the check engine light is blinking

Cylinder 4 is misfiring. Take it to a mechanic and have them take a look at it. Im guessing its the distributor, Spark plug, or spark plug wire on cylinder 4

Code scan: P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected

Code P0301 is a generic OBD Code for Misfire. It also indicates you have a misfire in the #1 Cylinder. I would start by checking the plug wire to make sure its clean and on all the way (at the coil as well). Then if that doesnt help I would pull the plug out and check the condition of the spark plug. hopefully this will give you some direction. Thanks for Using FixYa!

Sincerely,

JC
