Car won't go into gear

Check your Brake pedal switch. Some makers use a lockout controlled by a safety switch on the brake pedal circuit. Most will prevent the starter from cranking unless the brake pedal is pressed, but it could be made to prevent the gearshift from moving if the Brake pedal is not pressed. You are probably missing a signal from this switch. When you list a problem try to include the Make and model of the vehicle you drive.

Astrostart won't start the car

You may need to reset the system.

SEQUENCE ACTIVATED BY THE PARKING BRAKE .
1. While engine is running (key in ignition switch), apply the brakes and hold the pedal down.
2. Move gearshift lever to neutral.
3. Apply the parking brake Once Twice
Note: The system can be set - at time of installation - to require that the parking brake be applied once or twice.
If set for two actuations, pause one second between the two.
4. Remove key from ignition (the system keeps the engine running).
5. Exit the vehicle.
6. Within 60 seconds, close all doors.
7. The system will stop the engine and blink the parking brakes once to confirm the sequence is valid (vehicle is
ready for a remote start command).
SEQUENCE ACTIVATED BY THE REMOTE CONTROL
1. While engine is running (key in ignition switch), apply the brakes and hold the pedal down.
2. Move gearshift lever to neutral.
3. Apply parking brake.
4. Send the start command (Model 801 & 2101 - Model 903 ).
5. Remove key from ignition (the system keeps the engine running).
6. Exit the vehicle.
7. Using the remote, send the STOP command. The system will stop the engine and parking lights will blink once
to confirm that the sequence is valid (vehicle is ready for a remote start command).

The car starts, but the gearshift wont move from park

Usually a problem with the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
That circuit would need to be tested.

Won't start, locked gearshift

Have the battery tested, it sounds like it went dead or went open inside overnight. Autozone and others test batteries for free.

My 2002 tbird won't get out ofnpark

If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in
the RUN position and the brake pedal depressed:
1. Apply the parking brake, turn ignition key to LOCK, then remove the
key.
2. Insert the key and turn it to OFF. Apply the brake pedal and shift to N
(Neutral). This allows the automatic transmission shift lever to be
moved from the P (Park) position without the brake pedal
depressed.
3. Start the vehicle.
If it is necessary to use the above procedure to move the gearshift lever,
it is possible that a fuse has blown or the vehicle's brakelamps are not
operating properly.

Why won't mu 1999 honda accord's gearshift move from park when the silver button is pushed

This car has a park lock safety system that will only release the shifter if the brake pedal is pushed and the brake lights work, so first thing is to check and see if you have brake lights.

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer and when you turn the key it won't do anything. I have had the battery, starter, fuses, ignition, and relays all checked and they're all good. I even tried jumping the...

Hello, What you are saying is the starter will turn if you jump the starter Relay. If you want to try this a second time, make sure the Ignition switch is in the RUN position. It should start.

Be sure to have the vehicle in Park. There are some Interlocks in the gearshift and Brake pedal that prevent when certain things happen. When your vehicle is in Park or Neutral, the power wire from the Ignition switch can make a connection to the wire that controls the starter Relay.

But first this wire has to get the okay from the Interlock switch, that the gearshift IS either in Park or Neutral. If this switch is bad or misaligned, the connection will not reach the starter Relay. You need to take off the small wire at the starter Relay and hook up a test light or meter. Then turn your Ignition key to START. The small wire should have power when the key is held in the start position.

If the small wire does not have power, then everything connected to that wire needs to be traced back to the Keyswitch. The cables or rods that move in the gearshift or steering column may be out of adjustment. Not too expensive to correct.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you.
