Overheating losing coolant

  • yoshimioshir
    yoshimioshir Sep 10, 2012

I just noticed that my temperature gauge was high, so I pulled off at Auto Zone, bought coolant, and filled it because it was low. The coolant keeps disappearing, and I don't see any puddles under my car. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? After I add coolant it stops overheating. Could it maybe be that I need a new coolant flange? Or a head gasket?!

You stated Coolant disappearing then I add coolant and stops overheating? If no puddles under car, check oil dipstick and see if it has coolant mixed witht the oil for a gasket problem. If no coolant you may have a bad radiator cap and losing the coolant as you drive. The pressure and pump will force it out as you are driving to where you are not aware of it.

2012 BMW 535i losing all my water but not overheating?

If your 2012 BMW 535i is losing all of its water but not overheating, there could be a few possible causes:
  1. Leak in the coolant system: The coolant system of your car may have a leak, which is allowing the water to escape. This could be caused by a faulty radiator, a leaking hose or a cracked engine block.
  2. Evaporative loss: In some cases, the water may be evaporating due to high temperatures. This is common when driving in hot weather, and it can be caused by a malfunctioning pressure cap or a faulty radiator cap.
  3. Leak in the water pump: The water pump may be leaking, causing the water to escape from the coolant system.
  4. Leak in the head gasket: A leak in the head gasket can allow coolant to leak into the engine oil, causing the water to disappear.

2004 Pontiac Grand Prix V6. Car keeps overheating, I lose power steering when I go through puddles. Coolant is full now the coolant failure light lit up and temp went to red What's causing this?

You will lose steering of the belt slips on the pulley for the steering pump. Replace the serpentine belt, or use a belt conditioner spray.

This is likely the reason for the overheating, but can also be a coolant temperature sensor or the fans not working. Even a water pump failure.

2002 dodge intrepid.if water pump is leaking will this car run hot

If you lose sufficient radiator coolant any water cooled engine will overheat as will yours. You do not need to lose very much coolant for an overheating condition to occur.

If you allow the engine to run in an overheated condition you WILL cause very expensive engine damage many times what it will cost you to have a new water pump and new WP gasket fitted.

Overheating and losing coolant fluid

In my parts book it calls for a 16lb cap.
You may have damaged the head gasket before the radiator was replaced. Once an engine overheats, the gasket can be stretched and the head warped. The engine could be burning the coolant.

Seem to be losing coolant cant see leak now engine runs rough

Sounds like a leaking head gasket. The coolant could be leaking into a cylinder and is being burned out the exhaust.

If it's overheating but not losing coolant, replace the thermostat. If it's overheating from loss of coolant, replace the radiator cap with one that is the proper pressure for that engine.Rigger says luck toya.

Overheating coolant boiling out into reserve tank

you have a blown head gasket.. doesn't have to have coolant in the oil for a blown head gasket... if hoses are rock hard when running then you have exhaust leaking into the coolant via a blown head gasket...

I would start with the thermostat. sounds like it could be in stuck in the closed position, not allowing coolant to circulate the engine. Its very easy to change and inexpensive
