One quart per month is a bit more than I'd expect but you didn't mention how many miles you drive during that month.If you live where the ambient temps are very warm, it may help to use a good synthetic. Synthetic oils do not burn off or break down chemically as fast as conventional oils do. I'd use a 20w40 grade. Depending on the miles you've driven you shouldn't have excessive ring wear but the valve stem seals may have dried out and cracked. If the usage remains constant and there is no smoking etc, you could either leave it alone or have new seals installed. Average driving is approximately 1,000 miles per month so when figuring consumption, use that as a baseline. One quart per 1,000 miles in very hot conditions is a bit high....I'd expect to see 1/2 qt or slightly less. One odd thing though is that generally, especially in an engine that holds six quarts to begin with, at five quarts, the engine should not feel any different!!! Also.....you use miles to determine oil change intervals. Oil is best changed at between 3K and 4K miles. Only way you use the 3month method is if you don't use it much. (you can run most good synthetics longer than that)
Believe it or not, it is normal for these engines to use about a quart every 2000 even when they are essentially new. Note that I said, "use", not "burn". The combination of higher compression and operating temperatures causes oil to pass through the engine. You might notice your tail pipes have a good coating on the inside. I managed to slow the process by converting to Mobil 1 0W40. I get much better performance and I only use a quart every 3500-4000.
Though I am not familiar with the 2007 model, on the e46s, I know that the low oil light comes on when you are down only about 1/2 quart. Does your model have a dip stick?
A half quart in 3000 miles is not cause for concern. Most of them burn a bit less than that, at least during the first 200k miles, but some burn more. It depends to some extent what kind of oil you are using. It will burn more Mobile1 than it will Castrol Syntec, for example.
I have an '04 330 that uses about a half quart in 7k miles between oil changes, and an '04 325 that goes through a quart every thousand miles. I am only a little concerned about the 325. I would not be at all concerned about a half quart in 3k miles.
do this the oil is turning black due to sludge build up in the motor. change the oil and filter buy 1 quart of rislone come in an quart bottle like oil use this in place of 1 regular quart of oil. drive for about 250 miles then change oil and filter again this will remove all sludge build up in your engine. then your oil will stay clean for a normal interval with out turning black.
i use this in any car i buy and it always works.
How many miles do you go before you have to add oil. GM actually states that one quart of oil every 2000 miles is considered normal. I personally think that one quart every 3000 miles is normal esp at higher miles. As an engine wears things such as valve seals and rings get worn and allow oil to seep past and will burn, this can be in such small amounts that you will not notice the smoke and is normal engine wear. The life cycle of an engine is considered 100k miles by the designers, even though we all know they will go far beyond that. If your car has the 3.1 or the 3.4 liter engine you may want to check in the engine coolant for signs of oil, it is a common problem for the oil to seep into the cooling system but is not usually enough to make a noticable drop in oil level. If you are only using about one qt every 3k miles or so i would not worry about it if you have had it checked for leaks already.
No it's not have your engine check for oil leaks, also have then do a wet and dry cylinder compression test this will let you know if you are burning oil, also have them check the spark plug's.Hope this was helpful.
It is not normal for a car with 29,000 miles on it to consume this amount of oil in 10,000 miles. We usually change our oil between 3 and 5 thousand miles and thus may not notice small amounts consumed but certainly not 1-2 quarts. It is more likely that you are leaking oil, but if it is burning it, that is a real problem. If the car was pre-owned do a CARFAX. If it was wrecked, find out was was done. If the odometer is correct, this car needs to be inspected by a professional. I can tell you to look for unburned oil in the tailpipe, smoking exhuast, leaks from the oil pan and drain. Change the oil and filter and closely monitor the level.
i say change your oil every 3000 to 3500 miles no matter what any little monitoring system says!!!!!!

I do not believe there is a fix by Chrysler. My van has 50000 and seems oil consumption is getting worse. It is either past the valve seals or the piston oil control ring. I believe Chrysler KNOWS ALL ABOUT THIS! If you google search this there are to many complaints! 1 quart every 3 thousand miles is not exceptable unless you are driving a model T!
Every manufacturer has a guideline. But a quart every 1,000 miles seems higher then necessary. Try the easy steps first.
1. Check the PCV valve if clogged will caused pressure in crankcase and oil burning.
2. Remove spark plugs and perform visual inspection. IF electrode is covered in gook(technical terms, sorry), then oil is leaking into that cylinder. Most likely cause would be faulty valve stem seals.
3. Worse case scenario, engine oil rings are leaking. If all else is good. Perform compression test of each cylinder recording measurement, then add two small squirt of engine oil into each cylinder as you perform a second round, complete both dry then wet compression test on each cylinder before proceeding. IF any cylinder shows a more significant increase in compression then it would indicate that cylinder's oil rings are faulty. This is a major repair. Keep me posted
