My 05 taurus hesitates at cruising i am thinking fueling problem

when did car last run right? (bought it like this ) or just failed?
NO ENGINE TOLD OR VIN CODE DIGIT 8 (engine code)
of FOUR
3.0L engine? OHV
or 3.0L DOHC (twin cam) v6
2.5L4, CFI injection totally unique too.)
3.8L or ?v6?
the correct way to work this problem (and fuel is last)

1. is make sure engine is ok, (compression)>150psi
2. the test all spark , if misfires a new distrib>? cap/rotor? good spark and timing correct.
3. check fuel pressure cranking dead engine or if runs check pressure at idle and gunned WOT. to service manual spec

the FPR must be good, tested for pressure all steps.
the injectors must not be clogged . DOHC has 6 injectors. to clean.
nor bad MAP or MAF sensors. if bad it staves for fuel.
usually the map runs idle fuel and MAF runs off idle power.
EGR not stuck open
map vacuum hose working.

the 3.0L pump wiring is super simple
zero body/fuse box relays the ECM has power driver for it.
the ECC module (engine ) runs this ICM model below.sorry typo.
a very unique setup. the ECM DC powers injectors too..but are gang fired by, ECC.

if power loss is violent, called misfire, that is spark or injectors leaking;(flooding)
if power is smoothly lost (bogs) (engine good) that is
fuel pressure low
injectors clogged, 1/2 way
or FPR bad. (in 2.5L CFI this is part of TBI throttle body)
or MAP ,MAF failure.clean them>?


fuel pressure is(SM data)
The fuel pressure should be 35-45 psi (241-310 kPa) for the 3.0L and 3.8L engines. For the 2.5L engine, the fuel pressure should be 45-60 psi (310-414 kPa).
6 psi higher at WOT than idle,
the FPR must good and the vacuum port to it must be good at idle,20 inches HG vacuum at idle and 0 at WOT. Near 0.
The FPR must regulate PSI at all engine loads or fails hard.
if pressure is low at WOT there will be no power.HP?

this post is for all 89/Taurus. with 4 possible engines.

intermittent COMMON RAIL INJECTOR? (hard to test nor easy cleaned)

no problem stated just how to shop.
the dealer has the part. if it has one at all.
2.4 flex or not. flex fuel.???? /can not guess real engines. there.
turbo? and more engine can be many options,
why not post the VIN # so we can know what is really under the hood. just put XXXX's a the end to hide the serial.
the VIN has a real chevy engine code as does the BODY RPO codes called engine codes.
the petrol version of car (gasoline only) has GAS tank pressure sensor is and NOT fuel pressure at all.
the tank sensor up top is for EVAP testing USA EPA laws.
it can tell you gas cap is loose , and common. and only cap is wrong. 99% of time. new cap fixes it.

is there a scan tool error DTC ? you leave out DTC errors in post so answers will be dead wrong?

It can be fuel pressure issue or it's the problem with accelerator pedal or its clogged filters causing there.

This code is usually caused by leaking intake manifold gasket on the front side. With the engine running, spray carb cleaner or ether on the gaskets. If the engine revs at all, you have a leaky gasket. If not, check for other vacuum leaks in anything attached to that side of the manifold. If you have more questions, please let me know.

If you disconnected the Mass air flow sensor the car should have die out at idle. Check fuel pump pressure at the fuel rail should be 30 psi at idle. Low fuel pressure will cause your po 171, 172, problems which could cause the other to problems. You might be needing a fuel pump and filter.

i would check fuel supply, volume adn pressure, i wold also look at the MAF sensor hot wire to see if it has a little chia pet growing on it.
