2000 Pontiac Bonnevile is smoking white smoke out of the front left side and the smoke smell sweet like maple syrup. What could this be?
White smoke sweet smell. Sounds like Antifreeze evaporating..check your radiator and hoses, as well as your heater core. It is hard to fully answer a question without a hands on inspection, kind of like me asking you over the phone if you like my new tie I am wearing..

You are very welcome Lisa. Don't know why everyone jumps onto the hardest fix, like heads and gaskets first. Always go for the cheapest and easiest fix first. Then, if thats not the problem, move onto the next possible solution.

I would almost bet you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head. White smoke at the exhaust, loosing coolant, moisture on the underside of the oil fill cap, and on the dip stick are all signs of a blown gasket. The fact that there is no coolant in the oil does not mean it does not have a blown gasket. To find out for sure remove all spark plugs, disconnect the coil wire, and then run a compression test on all cylinders. If you find one or more with low compression you have a blown gasket. Do not drive this car any longer until you get this repaired. Serious engine damage will occur if you continue to drive it.

your cooling system is preasureising due to a leaking cylinder head gasket the white smoke you see is coolant passing through the exhaust valve on the offending cylinder have the cooling system tested for CO content hope this advice helps

Disconnect the battery the turn signal switch or sometimes called multifunction switch is shorting out. This can potential start a fire even when the car is not being operated. This may have a tsb or recall I would have it towed to your pontiac dealer

Probably upper intake manifold leaking. These have no head gasket problems.
