Engine will not crank over with the key.
Engine will crank over and start if the solenoid is jumped.
The engine will run for about 5 seconds then shut down.
It will restart immediately by jumping the solenoid.
Any suggestions...
Thanks.
This fix was for a 1996 Buick LeSabre.
I found the key reader in the ignition switch was faulty.
Made up a resistor pack to match the key resistance, cut the orange wire which comes out of the steering coloumn (it contains two white wires) from the reader to the VATS module and soldered it into the two white wires going into the VATS module.
This bypasses the security system so now any properly cut key will start the car.

It cranked over and started for a second then died. Now it will not even crank over. This happened before and jumped it and it started right up. What is wrong?
