Can't open tailgate and rear window

Got slightly rear ended and the tailgate handle was pushed in. Can still swing open the handle with the tire but pushing the button to open the rear window does not release the latch so I can't open the rear window or tailgate. How can I take the tailgate latch apart?

    thanks, but I can't see where to take off interior panel. There's a plastic ridge on the ceiling but that is above the glass window.

    my rear tailgate will not unlock and now discovered my rear back up alert lights arent working either???

If you take off interior panel.....push out the dent with a bar....then try button if no work go back inside and you should see bars going down from handle to latch area...pull up on it and should pop the trunk

    never said it was going to be easy.....somewhere on the interior on the hatch will be screws u have to find them it might be where the latch is or sometimes they hide behind speaker casings which u pop out to get all interiors use screws then clips to install so just pull on it not to hard u shouyld be albe to do it otherwise bring it to a cheap body shop they should open it for u for 20-50 $

How does the 1999 Tahoe tailgate open?
The right side can be unlocked with the key, once opened, the left side can be opened. Mine, the left side requires me to push in slightly while ensuring the release handle is pulled to it's furthest point before it will unlatch. If the electrical contacts at the door frame are dirty, the door may not unlock when pushing the button up front thus requiring the key to be used in the rear door. If this is not the solution, the latch rods inside the door need adjusted which requires some mechanical expertise.

06 Silverado tailgate stuck closed
You should be able to get in between the fender and tailgate with a long screwdriver or piece of flat metal and push the catch back into the tailgate. Then pull the handle to release the other side and the gate should open. Hope this helps.

1996 Isuzu Rodeo stuck tail gate
Remove the interior trim panel which will not be easy since the gate is up ---- you can then access the lock mechanism and will probably find a bent linkage rod or a broken plastic retainer clip.

Bronco rear window was being rolled up with a key when spare tire bracket was closed. It stopped halfway up and now won't move. I suspect the tailgate open switch. Where is this switch?
The electric key switch is next to the key cylinder on the rear door. You can see it easily with the window down and weatherstripping pulled out. The wiring may have become chaffed with the window over the years or the switch corroded in the contact points inside.

pull the tire mount lever to swing it open , push the button to raise the glass up then use the handle.

Rear Window in 1990 Ford Bronco
you could run a 3 way switch of some kind. but i would try looking in the access panel and finding the safety switch either right on the bottom of the handle or the drivers side tailgate latch. they are known to go bad.you can replace it but i pulled mine out and jumped it with a piece of wire works fine now

Back door wont open and window wont go down
The rear window has to be completely down in order to move the tailgate! You should be happy that your window is stuck up, unlike mine which is stuck all the way down! I have to completly take apart my tailgate!! If you want to try a trick to get the rear window down, my bronco has a rear window switch right next to the headlight knob, take the 2 purple wires on that window switch, and cross them, if your motor still works and if the wires are good, that should make the window go down!!! good luck, hope that helps!

I believe you have to open the rear window to open the tailgate??
Tailgate opens right to left [ passenger to driver ] side?
Tailgate handle will not work if window not open - feels like it is disconnected. The "button" releases the window only.
If you open the rear window and the tailgate still will not open. You need to remove the inside tailgate cover to get access to the handle and release switch. You can access the the window release the same way [ just a little harder to do]. You will probably end up breaking the vinyl panel to do this but so will the auto body shop and they will charge you $$$$$ to replace it.
