Oil pressure gage at zero when engine is running on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee v8. plenty of oil in engine

On a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, with the 4.7L V8.

Oil pressure guage drops off to 0 when oil has warmed up. This happened the first time while my wife was on her way to work, and then again after I checked oil levels, and started the truck.

I have had the same issue for the last couple of days. After checking various blogs on the web, I have learned that this is caused by a faulty sensor switch rather than the obvious pump etc....

My husband just had this problem tonight on his way to work. He still needs to drive the car home. Is it ok to drive if the oil pressure is showing 0 and the maintenance lights are on?

My oil pressure needle just started going down and now it fluctuates
and sometimes not even raising. While idleing it drops and sometimes
when driving on the highway. It sometimes will go back up to regular
levels and stay but then will drop again. I do not lose power at all, there is no unusual sounds, burnt smell, etc.
I recently had an oil change ( 2 days ago) thinking it might have been
time for the oil change but the problem continues with the oil pressure
needle not raising. When the needle drops my "check gauges" light
    comes on.

Approximately 115,000 miles and regularly serviced. Is this a bad oil pump? Any suggestions?

The gage will read OK at the beginning but after the Jeep has warmed up the gage will go to 0 when slowing down and stopping.

I have the same problem,an erratic reading on the oil pressure gauge.I have been in touch with Chrysler Jeep (USA) and this is a common problem. The oil pressure sensor needs to be replaced this is on the oil pump by the oil filter.I changed mine and no more problems.

If the engine is running normal and there are no odd sounds from engine. probably needs oil pressure switch or bad connection at switch. any ticking noises and i would have pressure checked with guage

Problem does come and go...just like the pressure reading. I surfed the net and found this problem to be quite common for this Jeep. As with the serpetime belt, squeaky brakes, failing dimmer light switch that causes the headlights to go and off and many other issues. But I love my Jeep and all its weird issues.

I have a 02 dodge ram 1500 that have a rebuilt engine that the check gages comes on and oil pressure was low at a zero then accelerate the pressure went up to 40 then light goes off and checked oil level...

If you paid someone to rebuild the engine, you need to go back for warranty work. If you did the work, you need to put on mechanical gauge, and find out if the pressures is low or if your sending unit is not accurate.

Changed oil in my jeep grand cherokee 1999 v6,and noticed the oil pressure gage is now setting at 80psi,and the filter is correct.

Not sure about your car, but alot of times the oil gauge sending unit is kinda close to the oil filter, and maybe during the oil change the wire connection was removed or damaged. Turn the key on and engine off ,and if the gauge reads 80psi then the sneding unit might be the problem

What does it mean when the check gage light come on and the oil pressure hand goes to the zero mark? I have a 2000 jeep grande cherokee limited with 124,000 miles.

Either the oil level is very low or the engine bearings have failed (assuming the gauge is accurate) if the engine isn't making noise and the level is full have a mechanical gauge installed to check actual pressure. if good, the sending unit or gauge is faulty.
If in doubt, do not drive or run the engine 'tll the problem has been diagnosed.

After oil change, pressure gage drops to zero and check gages light comes on after running for five minutes. oil is still full though.

Remove, check and replace the Oil Pressure Sensor. It should be located adjacent to the Oil Filter.

94 jeep grand cherokee oil pressure and engine temp?

I'm guessing your engine is'nt making any tapping noise with the low oil press.
Your oil pressure sending unit is most likely the culprit.
Is your car smoking when the temp. goes up?
You engine could be air bound or thermostat could be opening too late (might need new one).
PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP WITH A HOT ENGINE.
