We keep getting the code for evap system malfunction. everything checks out fine and car even passed inspection. its a 1999 chevy tracker. light will stay off for over 600 miles and come on for no apparent reason. we have bought new gas cap and tightened all hoses, where do we look now?
Problem not solved. its a 1999 chevy tracker not a 2001.
Http://www.obd-codes.com/p0440 you may find the answer here or at least what to check. It sounds like the code is intermittent which probably means something is going out just has not yet. My guess is you may have a leak in a hose( maybe a split or crack in hose)

my ecm is causing my car to malfunction with the power steering and other electrical things within the car. also if the ecm isn't the cause of the power steering having malfunctions then there is something wrong with the system. ive had the car look at by many shops and they can't find anything wrong with it in general. i have been told to just drive my car until something very major occurs; which in my case the car has had so many close encounters of on head collisions with cars and other varies things. now my check engine light is coming on which in result is causing my car to sputter and certain things not to work. i just changed the spark plugs and wires my husband keeps the car running great honestly; as to the battery light constantly coming on at certain speeds i just bought a new battery not to long ago. so the big question i must have for you is what is going on with my car. i honestly just cant take it to the chevy dealer and say fix it im not made of money, and i most certainly cant keep driving the car with it honestly having these issues cause my gas millage is horrible it is sucking gas like something awful. I feel i keep fixing replacing things on here just to turn around to do something more to the car. any thing you can help me with or direct me with?
