Volvo 1990 Model 740 Trunk Lock key was broken in it

It is under the Gear Selector so you will have to pull out the center console. Your best bet is to find another Gear Selector in a wrecking yard. Time consuming but not difficult to replace.

Does Lumina sedan have rear seat pass thru to trunk ?? if sedan then a pull tab will be in seat upholstery near shelf / by rear window . pull it crawl in with Light Plus friend on outside to hand tools .. IF VAN must remove interior panels to gain access .. Try small thin needle nose pliers to pick broken KEY Piece out of lock 1 ST . if successful spray in Lubricant before trying another key . BUT must be reason lock jammed -- Frozen by weather change or Mechanism Disconnected due to lack of lubrication or worse Plastic Parts used in assembly by Factory .. DRILLING Lock Out will get it Open but new / used parts to repair are now on your shopping list ..

If it is the same as the 2007 model.
The top of the key is a small slide switch.
You slide it and pull a vanity key out.If the glovebox has been locked it also possibly locks the boot with the same switch.
You will probably need to put key in glovebox lock and turn counter clockwise.
That key is to lock the seats to stop anyone getting into the boot via the fold down system as well.

Sometimes a small needle nose pliers can grasp
the broken key.
A hard ware store can help in the getting of the pliers.

A good locksmith can get this open for you. we used to do these all the time...due to age we don't see many any more. Either the linkage has come off the latch or the vacumm system to the latch is not working.

hi jim, try lifting up on the driver's outside door handle slowly while turning the key in the unlock position. The lock cylinder design has a cam on it that usually will catch while lifting the handle. if you have no luck on the driver's side, try the same thing on the passenger's side. be patient, it make take a few tries before the door unlocks.

My son was missing with the valet parking key while I was driving. When we got home and tried to open the trunk it wouldn't. It also made this buzzing sound when I push on the trunk latch.

Probably not. The reason the trunk (boot)and the doors have different keys is that the locking mechanism is completely different. I'm not sure bout this particular car but generally that's the case. Your best bet would be to try to find a door lock with a key at a junkyard or on eBay.

it may vary by model year, but my 740 has access to the trunk compartment by pulling down the rear seat arm rest and simply reaching through the flexible blind.

We have the '90 940, have you tried this; when the kids are piling out we reach through the back door and push down the lock button on the drivers door, this locks all the doors without the key...also helps if you have an armful of bags..just make sure your keys aren't still inside!!
