91 Honda accord continues to die while driving. What would cause the distributor to get hot

The last time it died when my husand was attempting the troubleshooting solutions ( the solutions I got from this site) he said that the distributor seemed to be hotter than it should be. What causes this and does that fit in with all the issues of the codes 15 and 16. We have already replaced coil. We are going to recheck the troubleshooting solution from my 1st question.

Have you checked for fuel delivery issues since car dies while driving? Is the fuel pump operating correctly? And how about the carb? - if the float gets stuck while up there will be an interruption of gas to engine. No gassy, no goey!

SOURCE: dont know security code to tape deck for 97 honda accord

You will need to pull out the radio and look for the serial number. Call your nearest Honda Dealer and ask for service. They should be able to give you the code. Otherwise if your not the original owner, people sometimes write it on the back of the owners manual.

SOURCE: i just bought a 91 honda accord se and when you go to stop it stalls or suts off. any ideas of what may be causing this

Check your 91 Accord's ignition coil. The coil goes bad at apprx. 150k miles and cause the car to run rough, hard to start(long cranking time) in the morning, stall after the vehicle has warmed up, cut out while driving and backfire horribly when accelerating from a standstill.

My 91 accord has been giving me grief 4 months. Sure would appreciate any help - TX GREASEMONKEY, u have been on the mark b4, want to take a shot... Its my only transportation and has been down 4 a month....

When you say you have fuel, do you have normal fuel pressure at the injectors ? Because Honda cars are known for faulty fuel pump relays.
The relay stops powering the pump when it gets hot but will start back up when the relay cools off.

Why does my 91 honda accord die once i put it in drive

With auto transmitters the problem that usually will make that occur is checking on your stall converter...i would have that checked.

Once up to normal running temp car dies

Had the same problem and it was the distributor module gone bad, dying when it got hot. I changed the entire distributor.....was easier to change the entire unit rather than the parts inside.

My timing belt and water pump for Honda Accord 1990 was replaced and used the car for 2- 3 weeks. After driving about 15 minutes, entering the freeway, my car slowed down but the engine still running....

If you have never changed that distributor on your 1990 Accord, I would suspect it. Check for spark while cranking. The sensors inside the distributor would usually heat up, after 15-20 minutes of running, and would then die out, until the car is cooled off for a while. Look into that distributor.

91 honda accord wont crank

There is a sensor under the left hand side of the dash that would not allow it to start, provided that you have replaced the electronic spark module inside the distributor first, which is what it sounds like it would be, When you say you replaced the distributor I assume you replaced it complete!

91 Accord Car will initially start then when driving it will die sometimes starts right away sometimes 10 or 20 minutes later but has gotten more frequent about dying and taking longer to start

I have a 1991 honda accord dx that had the same problem. while driving it would just completely shut down. after about 5 minutes it start and run for a while then shut down again getting more frequently. There was a recall on the ignition control module (ignitor) which is in the distributor. call your local honda dealer with your vin # and will tell you if yours was replaced. If not I bought one from parts store for $60 or you could take a chance and buy one from a junk yard. I bought the whole distributor for $20 as a back up.

1992 Honda Accord died

Ignition coil, transistor, rotor, distributor cap or other component in ignition circuit like ignition switch- may crank but no spark. In that order. Good luck.
