cranking and turning over are the same thing -I think what you're looking for is- it is not firing-not firing could be caused by a number of things -for an engine to run it needs 3 things -compression, air/fuel mix at just the right amounts, and spark at the right time- any one of these things not happening could cause your engine to not run-you need professional help-cheers Denny
It would cause an erratic fire, but probably won't start. If the chain or belt is broken, there will be no fire either. Remove the dist. cap and check to see if the rotor is turning while someone else is cranking the engine over... If not, belt is broken! Another way to check, is to remove the oil cap, if you can see the valves, get someone to crank it over, if they are not moving, belt is broken. In any of these cases, it sounds like it will need a new belt installed!
When you change the crank sensor you need a scan tool to set them. The distributor has to be turned using a scan tool to get the crank sensor dialed in.
this is a 96? if you are getting no spark, I'd replace the crank sensor first. Distributor? you should have coil pack and a ignition module, is there a check engine light?
check to see if you are getting fuel and fire if you are getting fuel ,plug a spark plug put wire on it lay close to metal on engine check for spark, dont get near gas, cause a fire, if you are getting fuel and fire should crank, hope to help you, robert b.
the main problems with newer car not getting fire is the crank position sensor its located behind the pulleys on the crank shaft or mounted on the block . when they get old they will lose connection on the inside causing them to fail . it should have has a 2 wire plug-in
