99 grand prix power seat problem

Recently, my power seat on my 99 grand prix will not move forward. The power tilt works, and up and down, but it will not go forward. I can't even hear the motor run. My son has it all the way back and I can't reach the pedals. PLEASE HELP! I can't afford a mechanic right now. Thanks! KM

Thanks, but we have tried everything. pushing, shoving, wiggling wires, checking fuses,looking for broken or bare wires. I need to figure out if there are different motors. that would explain why some things work and some dont. I doubt its the switch because its all the same switch and tilt works. I need to become gumby and crawl down there.Sure with my eyes were better !!!

Check for something jamming the track under seat , try havin son push seat forward while pushin switch . i dont know of a way to override the seat motor if its dead,,auto wreckers for seat replacement cheapest way to go they may even install

Power seat stopped working

There are 2 motors under the seat that control how it moves (one for forward/back and one for up/down) Check to make sure the connections are still connected/clean. If they are then your motor burnt out or there is something jamming the rollers on the track the seat rides on.

Front seat will not slide forward? The seat will move up and down, tilt, and the lumbar works? Even the heated/cooling seat works? What do I need to look for and how do I fix it:?

The power seat in the truck has 3 motors, one of them is not working, the most common cause of this is the power seat switch is defective, it is often the forward and reverse seat positioning switch that fails because it is the one that is most used. If the switch checks ok then you will need to replace the the power seat track assembly, Ford does not sell any parts for the track, it is only available as one complete unit, I know this because i retired form a Ford dealer. I have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee and the power seats will go up/down and tilt forward/backward but the seat is all the way and will not move forward. What can i do?

Hi Christy,

The first thing I would do is to look under the seat with a flashlight and see if there are any dammaged wires. This is the most common cause of seat failures. Things get stuffed under the seats, then the wiring gets dammaged when the seats are moved back and forth.

Other than that, all I know to tell you is that you must diagnose the circit that runs the motor that moves the seat forward and back. It could be the switch, the wiring, or the motor itself.

Drivers seat wont move forward. power moves the seat up and down but not forward or back

try tapping the motor that runs the seat back and forth.sometimes the motors get corroded if they are not used often enough.

I need to now how to take the driver and passanger seats out of a 1997 pontiac grand prix

There are four bolts that mount them to the body, you might have to move the seat forwards or backwards in order to access them. You'll need a ratchet and I believe a 1/2 inch socket. Also you'll need to unplug the electrical connection if there powered seats.

Check the connector on the cylindrical motor under the seat. You can see it from the back seat well. The connector has a tendency to come loose because of stuff pushed underneath the seat.

Driver seat will only go forward and backward but not up/down nor tilt

pull the switch loose and test it with a 12 volt test light, but in most cases the switch will check bad.
