Running hot i just replaced the radiator and the temperature hand will move to the hot position and then move back to half way. do i need to replace the thermostat and if so, where is it located. Also, I am not getting any heat from my car.

when the engine is completely cool. first thing you need to do is check your coolant level. if it is full. then either your thermostat is bad, your cooling fans aren't working, radiator is plugged or heater core is plugged. but if the heat works and blows good and hot odds are nothing is plugged and its the cooling fans that aren't working. Worst case could be a bad head gasket

Thermostat temperature senecer needs to be replaced

fans came late on those car,like 212 and second fan comes on at 224,you reprogram it to come a lot sooner,,other thing is there might be gunk inside the block,and coolant has hard time to pass through,and staying longer than enough in block temp goes high,even tough the radiator is doing it's job,it is just coming out block lot hotter than it suppose to be,and gauge read the block not the radiator

Check your coolant level visually by removing the radiator cap (only when it is cold). Also make sure the coolant temperature sensor for the cooling fan is functioning properly. These are set to operate the fan when the engine coolant reaches a predetermined temperature. These go bad in time and need replacing. Sounds as though yours may be working intermittently.

your thermostat is stuck in the closed position, replace it, anytime a hose blows off, this is usually the case, remember when replacing it that the spring part of it goes towards the motor

If your referring to your coolant temperature is running hot this could be caused by a number of things first i would check and make sure your coolant level is full and that your drivebelt is tensioned properly, after all of that checks out, check for a potential problem with your thermostat being stuck closed you could usually verify this by checking the temperature of the upper and lower radiator hoses if the bottom radiator hose is very hot but the top hadiator hose is luke warm that most likely mean the thermostat is stuck closed and is not allowing the hot coolant to escape the engine and go to the radiator if both hoses are hot the thermostat is working, next feel the upper half of the radiator and the lower half of the radiator if theres a big difference in temperature there this usually means theres a blockage inside the radiator and a flush may be needed or a radiator replacement if a flush doesnt work, if the coolant system appears to be cirrculating coolant properly there most likely is a problem with your head gasket causing the engine not to be able to maintain its temperature correctly....

okay temp is not hot enough check thermostat temp rating is it 195 degree etc. are you in a cold climate state? Maybe you need to get a thermostat of a hotter degree[four seasons 195 degree should do it]. If this is what you have (195 deg. thermo) then it might be stuck open not allowing the heat to build up. Another possibility is air in the radiator system, bleed system. This too might be of help the blend door, which is operated by the HOT to COLD lever on your climate control panel, might not be moving all the way closed to stop the cold air from coming in the mix area with the heat. Move the lever back and fourth to feel any change in heat with your hand. Put the defroster on fan on high and put one hand near the defroster vent thee other hand moving the temperature selector. Do you have some sort of heat and you can feel the difference from hot and cold, then my recommendation is to check thermo degree rating, if ok then try to flush radiator, and if that does not work --replace Heater Core. If you've changed the coolant recently, it could be air locked in the heater core. To remove park the truck with the front higher than the back and remove the radiator cap. Start the engine and let it run while watching for a big air bubble burp coming out the radiator neck. Top off the coolant and continue.

First when vehicle is cold like in the morning check and make sure that the vehicle has enough coolant/ antifreeze in radiator and reservoir. If coolant is need use a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze. You will need some time to do this let car run at idle until the temp guage is in the middle NOT+ normal operating temperature. At this point if the thermostat should be in the open position. Let vehicle run and check to make sure that radiator fan comes on. This should come on when guage is about midway/half way. If temperature rises above half going to h/hot and fan doesn't come on, you either have a BAD FAN BAD FAN SWITCH BAD FAN RELAY OR BLOWN FAN SWITCH FUSE. You will need to check all of the following I will help if its needed. If fan comes on and doesn't go off and vehicle continues to get hot even with fan running. Feel radiator hoses and see if the lower radiator hose is cool/cold. If it is you have thermostat that stuck closed. Replace thermostat and fix problem. If all the above is good and vehicle continues to over heat. THE BAD NEW IS THAT YOU MAY HAVE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET /CRACKED HEAD /BROKEN WATER JACKET. Basically you will need a HEAD JOB at least a head gasket. ONe tell tail sign of this is oil looking like milkshake/chocolate milk-a creamish while residue in oil or antifreeze.
