What does the od off light mean? - 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

  • Anonymous Jan 03, 2012

it means the over drive is disabiled. You might have accidentally clicked the overdrive button on your gearshift. The OD off indicates that your car will not shift into overdrive. It is useful to turn turn it on. it also takes more fuel when not in over drive. it is good to turn off over drive if you need engine brakeing in hilly areas.

Od light on

Hi there,

When you press in the Overdrive (OD) switch, this simply allows your gearbox to use the highest gear (when it needs to). For example, if your transmission has 1,2 & D gears, the OD acts as a 4th gear. This is useful on open roads and will help with economy.

If the OD light remains ON, then you have deactivated the 4th gear. This means the car will change up to 3rd gear only, until you depress the OD switch again.

Deactivating the OD is useful, when you wish to "manually" change down to 3rd gear, to climb a hill, or need better acceleration.

My OD off Light came on what does it mean?

it means your vehicle automatic transmission has less power and it has less fuel consumption..you turn it on when you need a maximum power of the transmission.OD off is only advisable for short distance driving, but if you are going to travel on off & rough roads the "OD off" switch will turn on.The light goes off by then.

I have a light on my dash that says o/d off

i assume that you have a sentra 1997 automatic transmission. OD orange light on your dash means that your overdrive is not engaged meaning your sentra is not on fuel efficient mode.

solution: in your automatic stick shift, driver side is a button just below the T bar. press that button until the OD light dissapears on your dash. you're now in overdrive mode.

What does it mean when your O/D off light is flashing and the transmissionis slipping

The flashing OD light indicates there is a problem in the transmission control system. When the Transmission Control Unit detects a malfunction it will flash the OD light and store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in the computer. You will need to have a Ford Dealer pull the codes and determine exactly what is wrong.
I wish I could be more specific, but there are about 120 different reasons for the flashing OD light.

Wheres the overdrive unit and how do i test it?

I'm guessing automatic trans. look at the end of the shifter handle there should be a button on the end . if you press it a yellow light should come on saying OD OFF . and the engine rpm should increase when driving, meaning the trans came out of OD. press it again and trans will go back into OD and light goes out.
hope this helps.

O/D Light is on

I respectfully disagree with C17Hydro.

The OD light is "on", because somehow, someone has accidentally turned the OverDrive switch to the "Off" position. This switch is located on the transmission shift lever. When the button is "in", the overdrive is engaged; this is where the switch is supposed to be, to give you maximum fuel mileage. When the button is "in", the light is turned off. When the button is "out", the OD is dis-engaged, and the light on the dash illuminates to indicate to you that the OD is "off". Unless the OD light is blinking rapidly, you have NO transmission issues.

Does anyone know what the orange arrow light means on the instrument panel of an older volvo sedan?

Means the overdrive is disengaged. There should be a button on the side of the shifter. If pressing this does not engage the OD, then you may need to replace the OD solenoid.
